Does it feel like the whole thing was over the top?

Having not read the books or knowing what happens, I just felt like it was odd. Why is this King and focal point so vulnerable? Seemed like an anticlimactic end, despite being disturbing. But I'll give this show the benefit of the doubt for sure.

I thought it was pretty brutal but, no, not over the top.

As they showed the bread and salt thing, and spend a bit of time showing it, I think they may spend time in the next episode (or next season) explaining the significance of it. Otherwise it does leave a question mark for TV viewers around why they were allowed to be so vulnerable at the wedding.

On a slightly related point, I went to a "village party" in Croatia where all guests were welcomed with bread and salt (and a shot of the local firewater) before entering the village hall. So that part, like a lot of the show, has a grounding in actual history/custom. It was one of the best nights I've had when on holiday too...and no-one died!

Gotcha. In the book it was pure shock and frankly disbelief (for me at least). I actually re-read the chapter to make sure I read what I thought I read. In the show it was closer to a horror movie, imo.

I felt slapped when I read the Red Wedding chapter. Disappointing that they didn't take some time in the current or previous episodes to show or explain the significance of guest right. I was kind of hoping to see the Hound kick a little *** during his escape/exit from the Twins like in the book but no such luck.

Am I the only one not upset at what happened? Robb was too self-involved IMO. Catelyn thought too highly of herself to the point it often put her family at risk.

I try to make the readers feel they’ve lived the events of the book. Just as you grieve if a friend is killed, you should grieve if a fictional character is killed. You should care. If somebody dies and you just go get more popcorn, it’s a superficial experience isn’t it?

So says the Queen of Thorns. Look, when Florida finally does the right thing, you can petition my hand again.

Oh and its a GOT sigil candle. Unscented. Dulls the senses. Goes nicely with my GOT coasters while I am sipping Arbor Gold while gazing at my The Lands of Ice and Fire map set...while I am wearing my Winter is Coming t-shirt. I promise that's it

Staying back and getting killed was not the task he was charged with by Quorin Halfhand. He is a Stark and you knew he wouldn't be able to murder a defenseless old man who was a friend of the Night's Watch. The direwolves provided him an opportunity to escape and he took it.

Didn't feel bad for her for even a second. Robb's mistakes were to be expected because he was still very young. Catelyn's job was to help him avoid those and she failed miserably. She even started the downward spiral letting Jaime Lannister go. I was upset about Robb. Robb was a lot like his father and was a likeable character despite his flaws.

I feel bad for Arya. She was so close to being reunited.

I also get the feeling the emotional beat down isn't over this season. It would not surprise me if the showrunners want everyone to think the horribleness is over this season just so they can catch us off guard one more time before the season ends.

    Two things:

Jon left her behind, but anyone else pissed he didnt realize Brans wolf was there, so he must've been close?!?

    B) No music during the credits let it marinate, and left me a sad panda.......in silence.....

    Well done by them.

As a non book reader, how the F do they top this for the finale? I am almost scared......lol

I have to believe Jon left for a reason and I don't think its because he's a *****. I want to believe he left because he knew Bran was there and was trying to get the Wildings away. Like I said, i want to believe that.

Traditionally, E:9 **** hits the fan and E:10 things wrap up for the year, so they don't need to top it. However, I wouldn't put it past them to hurt us one last time in E:10.

As a nerd who has read the books, I don't think they involved the music enough leading up to the massacre. In the books it played a huge role. The music became louder and faster crescendoing into the massacre. Maybe it just didn't work on TV, but I really love the way the author let you know something bad was coming by describing the music in the book. It was brilliant.

Book 3 has 3 OMG moments in it.
Viewers will enjoy the last 2 much more than the first. If you were paying attention during the slug burning red queen scene, you'll know what's coming.

Book 3, IMHO, was the best of the first 5. That's good news for the rest of this season and next. The bad news is the shows covering books 4 and 5 are going to suck in comparison. Still some good action, but very very slow, and no real shocking moments. Save for the end of book 5 which is a dick punch cliffhanger from a fat windbag of an author who will probably die before he finishes the 6th book.

Yeah and what's up with the wildlings? It seemed like an army was heading to the wall, then there was just 4 of them? What exactly are they doing? Is that supposed to be a raid?

I think what we saw at the tower was the small hunting party dispatched to catch the old farmer, while the rest stayed back at the old farmer's house....probably to sleep with each of his 3 daughters even though he told them not to.

Why do all the kings and leaders do crap themselves. Robb attending that sham wedding. The main four going after the horse breeder. I'd be like "after him!" While my lazy king *** rested.

I thought it was a small raiding party (of 10 or so) that climbed the wall, with the plan being to head to a less guarded wall-fort and take it before opening the gates to let the rest of the army through the wall? We never saw the whole army, or even the leader Mance, climbing the wall.

Can't be many left on the south side of the wall now apart from Ygritte and Tormund, with the direwolves killing at least a couple and Jon killing Orell.

Book 3 is almost nothing but OMG moments. Book 3 is one of my favorite books.

Then book 4 and 5, almost nothing happens.

Book 3 has 3 HUGE OMG moments, with little like Sansa's wedding and the Hound capturing Arya and Strong Belwas being awesome. *sniff* Strong Belwas. I really wanted to see Strong Belwas!

    Still
I can't wait to see Tyrion choke the **** out of Shae. I despise the show version of Shae.
