I have been wanting to vent and say how I feel for sooo long. I have to admit Im a frustrated Fins Fan. Too many years of underachieving. Too many years of the same boring team. You see teams make changes and make significant pushes, like the Cards and Rams have done. You have seen teams be competetive. Other teams like the Jets improve. Miami..........despite change of ownership, coaches, players.........have been the same average team for about 30 years. The names change. The results are pretty much the same. You never go into into a fins game feeling pretty confident regardless of the opponent. They go on a mini run from time to time, just long enough to grab your heart and make you believe and then rip your heart out. I go to the Fins draft party and see the raw emotion. The sincere optimism that i can only compare to a presendential election. Fans want to believe and they deserve a champinship. Poor drafting and the waste of the occasional real talent, like Marshall, and others...have set this team years back and in no mans land. The fins have been the same team for almost 4 decades. They wasted the career of Dan Marino by not providing the talent to complement him. That is why Dan was throwing to guys like Ferrel Edmonds, Tony Martin, Scott Swuedis, James Pruitt, Scott Miller, Troy Drayton, Fred Banks, Greg Baty, etc. And lets not go over the running backs. But the biggest flaw, has been that the attitude. Never a swagger, never a killer instinct, never a toughness similar to that of the great Canes teams of the 80s and 90s. I did not say play....i said attitude. The canes were a feared team..........no body has feared the Fins for decades. Until the fins cultivate a bad boy mentality and put in a tougher mentality, it wont matter who they draft or who they bring in to coach. Not Cohwer, or Gruden, or Lambardi. A short example: Years ago the fins played the eagles. With the game on the line, the dolphins had the eagles and Mcnabb at their own 2 yard line. They had a chance to make a statement and put the game away. If it had been the Pats, or Steelers, or Ravens, thier pride would have caused them to raise their game and play hard. The attitude would have been " WE GOT THIS, LETS TAKE OF BUSINESS". But it wasnt the Steelers , or Pats, or Ravens. It was the Dolphins, and the eyes of the defense was more like " I HOPE WE DONT LOSE, I HOPE WE CAN STOP THEM". The Dolphins allowed the Eagles in 3-4 plays to go down the field and win the game. But Im sure you can agree that that kind of game has happened way too many times. I am a fan. But I am not a blind one. Im not like the lonely Panther fan that waves a number one sign in the air when my team scores a TD in the middle of getting blown out 51-7. I am a frustrated fan. Honestly.....arent you?? But I hope that instead of bringing in Fergie and Marc Anthony, and Gloria Estefan, they settle for making the team better. I know your impulse as a Dolphin fan, may be to critizice me, but I tell it like I see it. Im sure you guys are real fans, but intellengent ones too and you also see the things that have plagued this team forever!! Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.
I happen to agree. Other than a few bright spots through the years, we`ve been the "same old dolphins", its frustrating as hell.
I understand where you are coming from...believe me. I got to look forward to next year and see if things will be different.
