Free agency will begin on March 2nd, 2011 at 12:01 AM ET. If you wish to bid on any free agents, you all must be under the cap.
How does the process work? I know it’s an auction format, but what happens? Someone starts a thread with the guy’s name in the title and people just reply with bids?
There will be threads by position with a full list of free agents available at that position. There you can bid on the player and the original post will be updated with bids.
Also please give your thoughts on whether the franchise/transition tagged players along with the RFA tendered players should be done in a private, one-time only bid format... you PM me your bid before the 24 hour time limit. This way teams can decide on whether to bid on a player AND we cannot have the "well I would have bid more if there was more time" argument. One bid at your own risk, that's the philosophy I am thinking as far as the tagged/tendered players go.
Isnt there also a max of 10 players you can bid on at once? I think thats what we had last year. I believe it was also 48 hours to win the bidding on a player without anyone beating your bid..then the 48 hours starts over if someone one ups you. Im guessing thats still in effect.
Well I think we should only be allowed a limited bid for tagged players, because you should be coming in with your highest offer anyways and force a team to decide if they want that player bad enough. Though... should we be able to bid on two tag players at once? A Plan A or Plan B... ala Manning or Vick
Well, the bid on RFA and UFA's who have been franchise or transition tagged takes on added importance this year with the whole Manning and Vick thing. First, as long as you are under the cap with your bids that should be the bottom line (and that should include all bids on other free agents, but not include bids on other tendered free agents). The reason for that is that you only have a 24 hour period to manage these bids and you have a 48 hour period to manage bids on all other non tendered free agents. I think the cap restriction will override any numeric (10 players) restriction because you are likely to go over the cap with your bids prior to reaching that numeric restriction anyway. I think perhaps it should be semi private. I think the bidding teams should know what the other bids are on a specific player before the 24 hour period closes. They should be able to top any bid but they shouldn't know WHO the bid is coming from. They also shouldn't be able to bid on other tendered free agents at the same position while their bid is the top bid on that specific player. I also think the rest of us (who aren't bidding on these tendered players) shouldn't know who is ahead in the bids or who has bid on a player, but should know what the bids are on each player (to make it fun for all of us hehe). All bids should go through GIK for that 24 hour period and only GIK. He will have to manage what is disclosed to the rest of the league and what isn't. Obviously the team with the tender will then have a period of time after the 24 hours is up to match or not match. I also think all bids that GIK discloses should be managed in one thread and not be posted in the regular UFA position by position threads. Random thoughts from a deranged individual...
I disagree. I have to know who is bidding on Manning....I need to know if the bidding team as the requirements needed, (2 top 10 picks).
No the requirements is 2 first round picks, you're preferences of picks does not matter so you'll just have to match regardless.
Well if that's the case, I guess all the Manning talk can stop. If I don't get to know who the offer is coming from - hence not knowing if they meet my requirements - I will be matching any offer regardless of amount. You guys think I'm joking, but I will field a team of Manning and 52 scrubs if I have to.
no the Manning talk can't stop, until it's actually done and over with! Besides I'm going to be the one fielding a team of Manning and 51 scrubs!
And you might want to have more than 12 mil in cap space. You'll need at least triple that before I even flinch.
You won't get to know who the winning team is until after the 24 hour period is up. Then you can see what picks they have and whether or not you want to match. If you know there was more than one team interested... you could take a risk and match the winning bid (if you don't like their picks) and then auction him off to whomever you wish. I think that sounds reasonable.
I think it would only be fair to the GMs if they knew who and what they would be receiving on the player that was bid. What if say the Titans bid on him as does Minnesota and PSG doesn't want Manning to go into the same division but is willing to let him walk to Minnesota?
The GMs will know who has made the final bid when it comes to tagged UFAs and tendered RFAs. There is no negotiation in that section.
You could also maybe set up a completely different thread just for the Franchised / RFA players ... that way it's easily tracked. You could also consider limiting the amount of bids that can go on and the timeframes.
