Yes, this is McFadden thread # 36,267. I was looking at some old videos of Ricky from 2002 on YouTube. If McFadden's talents translate to the NFL, it would make our offense SOO much better. Looking at Ricky's old videos reminded me how a dynamic runner who can score from anywhere makes your offense alot harder to defend. youtube.com/watch?v=3jc68d2vEXM&feature=related youtube.com/watch?v=cHeR7TWdW-Y&feature=related youtube.com/watch?v=H4wpP1llLfc&feature=related youtube.com/watch?v=2msR7SLqR2M&feature=related youtube.com/watch?v=rtNxj3o6Y0w&feature=related
I get a feeling based on the comments of Mueller and Cam that Ricky won't be back. They seem to be real stickler for character...when it's convenient for them. $30 million Joey Porter gets in a fight? No problem Joey, go out there and make us proud. Fred Evans gets in trouble and he's cut. It would be very irresponsible both financially and talent-wise to cut Ricky. I hope I'm wrong.
20th rushing offense despite Ronnie still being the leading rusher in the stats and will return next year (along with Booker and possibly Chatman/Ricky) vs last place rush defense that needs at least 1 FA signing and 2 draft picks to reforge the line (especially if JT is traded). Seriously there is 0 argument for McFadden and everyone who keeps bringing it up is setting themselves up for disappointment on draft day. Especially with 2-3 very good defensive players for the line that'll go top 6. Really the only positions that are safe are RB, C. Everything else is up in the air.
Tell me....how many playoff games did we win with Ricky Williams? Winning teams are built with great line play on both sides of the ball, great quarterback play, stopping the run on defense, creating turnovers on defense and playing great special teams. Running backs are complimentary, not the key.
Ricky is great, but he has a habbit of not hanging around for one reason or another... I'm in the Mcfadden camp after all our RB injuries this year.
its a good thing that our defense is so good that we can afford to draft another RB RB is the one position where you can get a franchise player in the later rounds god help us if we continue to ignore the trenches, where we seem to like to get beaten
We have to have a winning record to make it to the playoffs in the first place, a "great" RB is the quickest path to offensive improvement. How many winning records did we have with Ricky and Wanny Ball and pop gun armed QB?
I'm still for trying to trade down. I think the wise choice if we stay put is Glenn Dorsey, our D-line is horrendous. However, if we could trade down a few spots and land a top-flight CB and maybe another D-lineman later on, I'd be fine with that.
Personally, if we Draft McFadden....Sweet. If we draft Glen Dorsey....Sweet. If we draft Chris Long.....Sweet I wouldn't complain over any of them. I think their all gonna be studs.
What kills me is whenever we've been in the hunt for a QB and were able to do so, the quality wasnt there or we just didnt get one. 2005 we got Ronnie Brown with the 2nd pick, we got J.Allen in 2006 in year of Cutler, Leinart, and Vince Young, and 2007 we get Ted Ginn instead of Brady Quinn, and the rest were 2nd tier QBs(though jury is still out on Quinn). Now this draft, I dont think theres one bonafide franchise QB availible.
I have nothing against McFadden. But I don't see the point in selecting a runningback with the first overall pick when a) we already have Ronnie Brown and b) we have a bad run defense.
Yeah, let's get McFadden and tie up most of our cap money in a single position where we are pretty well set! Brown, Chatman, Williams, Cobbs, Gado, Booker. If you can't pick three of those six to handle the load next year, you just aren't trying hard enough...
We have so many needs, we take the guy that is the best player...period. If it's McFadden, Dorsey, Long, Brohm, etc. the powers that be (hope its not Cam) need to take the best player. I understand the side of taking the need position, but the fact remains that if we take Dorsey....we still suck because one guy does not fix this fiasco. Ideal scenario is to trade down (unlikely to find a partner), and get 3 or 4 very good guys instead of one potential great one.
