Ian McKellen To Show Privates On PBS?
'Rings' Star Goes Nude For 'King Lear' Performance

POSTED: 9:48 am EDT July 15, 2008
UPDATED: 11:25 am EDT July 15, 2008

Last fall, Ian McKellen dropped his pants on stage to reveal everything he has -- and soon the full-frontal scene may play on public television.

The nude scene was part of the "Lord of the Rings" star's performance in the title role of "King Lear" in New York.

you mean all the hobbit man love in the LOTR (especially in all of the 5 endings in the last episode) wasnt enough? Now they need wizards showing the nation their junk... I thought thats why he carried around a huge staff, to compensate for something.

1. If Gandalf shows the world his "precious" I will be offended.

2. Why is it ok for this guy to do this and Janet Jackson's nipple ring caused such a big mess with the FCC and standards and practices?

3. I bet he lives up to his character's name, Gandalf the Grey.

I think that's a valid point. Somehow it seems male nudity (backside) is more acceptable then female nudity on tv. Its a double standard I have never understood.

Men (even very fat men) are allowed shirtless all over tv, but not women of any kind.

Because people haven't completely shaken off the misogyny that has been deeply rooted in our culture (and others). Women = carnal, evil, temptation. :pity:
