Good morning Dolphins fans! Here's my End of Season Mock Draft Video! Enjoy! Em
I just saw your pick for the Dolphins. If it were possible to burn a thread down, I'm pretty sure this would be about to go.
HA! Why so?? With a new head coach, its impossible to know where he wants to go.. I say build on that OL and draft a guy like Weeden or Wilson in Rd 2.. I'm not sold on Matt Flynn
We need a passrusher to replace JT and Wake is a FA after this season, Olinemen can be found outside of top 10 picks.
If it were me, I'd take Courtney Upshaw or Riley Reiff over Martin, but that's just me... I wouldn't be upset over this selection though.
One of Philbins greatest assets is molding good OL from relatively obscure and low profile linemen .I doubt he will be pushing for an OL in the first round when we are in dire need of skill position players or a pashrusher as has been noted. If we do draft an OL it will probably be on the second day of the draft.
Since everyone and his mother that is a Fins fan wants us to trade up for RG3 or draft the Boy Wonder, Matt Flynn and it's assumed we'll have the QB position squared away, I actually agree with your pick here. Think about it, what's been the Achilles heel of this team for 10 yrs...OL. Yeah, we haven't had an elite QB, but other than NE, NO, GB, Indy and perhaps SD and the G-men...who's got a true franchise guy ?? What we've had problems doing is getting our OL to that next level. Be it because of injury or scheme or lack of talent, it just hasn't worked for us. Bush got his yards on his own, not because the OL opened up many holes. Our QBs over the years have been poor to mediocre, but have they had time to set plays up and follow thru when throwing the ball....for the most part...NO... On the flip side of the draft thing, Diggy, I doubt very much that Holmgren passes on RG3 if he falls to them... McCoy struggled in the changeover to Shurmer's WCO...
Thanks Gang! This is some great responses! My other question to you guys would be: How would you think your needs rank? My guess would be: 1. OL 2. OLB 3. QB
While OL may be a need, we have to do a better job filling slots with non major commitments and do well. Sinking three first round picks into an OL within a 5 year span is terrible resource management imo.
We can address OL in free agency or later rounds. Biggest need is QB, after that, linebacker/defensive end.
I am going to go out on a limb and say "I bet our new HC is sold on Flynn and would much rather have him run the offense than rookies Weeden or Wilson."
I see it like this: QB - It's possible Moore could fill this need OLB - We will most likely re-sign Wake. We have nothing else. Safety - I'm surprised this position is overlooked. We NEED safeties. the FS spot is up in the air with mediocrity and Bell is 33. Dashon Goldson should have been a priority last offseason, but this year he becomes a must have if you're going to sign a FS. If Martin, Lester, or Rambo are there, I say you take one assuming you can't get Goldson or don't want to sign him.
While an offensive lineman would probably make me sick, it wouldn't be a illogical choice. We gave up a ton of sacks this year. So even if you bring in Manning, Griffin, or Flynn you still have to worry that they won't have enough time to be as effective as they should be. Still, I tend to believe it's easier to find solutions to the oline problem without using a high draft pick than it would be to address the QB and pass rush problems. If we can't get a QB or pass rusher at 9 I'd love to get more picks this year or another first rounder next year.
If you bring in Manning, O-line isn't as big a deal. He is the best O-line in the league because of his release time. Manning throws before breaks to spots. Watching his game, he made the Colts line look MUCH better than it really was. Griffin may have an advantage in his athleticism. In the action I saw, he seemed to be a guy who used his agility to set up his passes. He'd roll out far ahead of defenders and use that to launch down field very often. With Flynn, partly because of how bad the Packers's O-Line was, he may be able to work around it. I think O-Line needs an upgrade, but not a top 10 upgrade. Brandon Washington would be a solid 4th round pick, and Demetrius Bell is an UFA. If you pick those two up, you shore up the line very well IMO.
