GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida forward Jonathan Mitchell has decided to transfer, becoming the second player to leave the team this week.

Sophomore center Marreese Speights entered the NBA draft Tuesday, although he did not hire an agent and left open the possibility of returning to school for his junior season.

Mitchell, a sophomore from Mount Vernon, N.Y., averaged 3.1 points and 1.8 rebounds in 35 games last season. He played a little more than 11 minutes a game, and his court time likely would have dwindled next season with the addition of a highly touted recruiting class.

Coach Billy Donovan has three big men coming to Gainesville -- power forwards Eloy Vargas and Allan Chaney and center Kenny Kadji.

The 6-foot-7 Mitchell has not decided where he will transfer.

Wow, what is Speights thinking. He needs to stick around at least another year.

Billy's down on him big time. He's got potential, but severely lacks the aggressiveness on the boards and defense that Billy requires.

Same with Mitchell. He was a big time scorer in NY. However, that wasn't the role for him on UF, and he didn't/couldn't adjust. Neither player would have done well next year. The big guys coming next year are (hopefully) much more Donovan's type of player.

Basically, Billy expects his big men to get dirty. Well, he expects everyone to get dirty, but especially his big guys. Both have had two years to figure it out, and neither has.

Speights has a lot of potential, but I seriously doubt he gets drafted. If he does, it will be late, and he'll live in the NBADL.
