Here are five NFL offseason situations worth closer examination:

    1. Situation: No videotape of the St. Louis Rams' walkthrough practice prior to Super Bowl XXXVI being included among the eight stolen tapes that former New England Patriots employee Matt Walsh has certified he is turning over to the NFL.

Comment: As Patriots owner Robert Kraft asserted during the NFL's Annual Meeting last March, there is no smoking gun that further implicates the team of wrongdoing beyond what already has resulted in punishment for coach Bill Belichick and the organization. Had the Pats been guilty of taping the Rams' walkthrough, Belichick would have merited, at the very least, a year-long suspension and at least one of the club's three Super Bowl victories would have been tainted. However, Kraft never would have put his credibility on the line in making a heartfelt apology to his fellow owners at the meeting if he had any doubt about the full extent of the Patriots' rules violations. This should finally bring an end to a story that contained far more intrigue than substance.
