http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/story/_/id/8734487/2013-nfl-mock-draft-where-top-qb-land Has us taking Dion Jordan. Jarvis Jones is the next pick following us with Te'o going one before us. What do you guys think of the pick? Obviously a long way to go from here and things will almost definitely change.
I've only paid attention to him a few times and didn't see the high draft pick status some are claiming, but I should watch a few more games before giving a more concrete opinion.
Haha took me a second there...at this point I would rather go Jones over Jordan if both are available. But I do have to watch more tape on Jordan, as well.
No way do I take Jordan over Jones. Won't matter anyway though because I think Jones will go before we pick.
I could not argue against those two players, love both, but T'eo could bring an identity to a city and franchise that is desperate, and I absolutely believe you have to quantify that in your value chart.
I love the Dion Jordan pick. I would take Jarvis jones first but I find it unlikely he is available. I hope we take one of these stud de's in the first and address our wr need in the second.
Well in your argument, it wouldn't be the first time the fins took a guy with good character over a better football player.
I think if x player has the intangibles that can help a franchise back on their feet, create new fans, sell tickets, create an identity, instill leadership , lead the right way, inspire, those things can affect a football game in the end, and if its close when your comparing two players against each other, you might wanna place that value in the favor of T'eo, and select him even though there might be a little better player on the board.
Why isn't Suggs name ever mentioned w/age? JT won DPOY at 33 etc etc If this guy can make an impact, I'm all for it, Te'o would be nice it would also mean the end of Dansby in Miami.
I don't think a MLB is going to inspire our fan base. We have had a defense that has been for the most part good to great for the last two decades. If they solely want to inspire and excite our fans they would draft a playmaking WR. Unfortunately, there is not a WR that warrents a selection where we will be picking. And I find it funny how most people here ***** and moan about our defense not making plays or having playmakers on defense (and offense). Yes, I understand T'eo has 7 interceptions this year, but in his 3 previous years he had a combined total of 0. So in a 4 year body of work you are looking at a player in T'eo that has a combined 8.5 sacks, 7 INTs, 34 Tackles for Loss, 2 FF, and 1 FR. Those are what I consider playmaker plays. In four years he had a combined total of 52.5 Impact plays. Additionally he had 427 tackles (209 solo and 218 assisted). Jarvis Jones on the other hand has ONLY played 3 years. He has 26 sacks, 1 INT, 43.5 Tackles for Loss, 9 FF, and 0 FR (which I know for a fact is incorrect because I saw him recover a fumble in this years Florida-Georgia game. But I will keep it consistent with the stats presented by the same website). So in THREE years he has a combined 79.5 Impact plays. Additionally he had 160 tackles (91 solo and 69 assisted). ****Another thing to take into consideration is in Jarvis Jones first year he only had 13 Tackles and 1.5 Tackles for Loss. So 78 of those IMPACT plays came in 2 years. If both players are available you know who I would choose. The Playmaker, someone that would cause Defensive Coordinators to lose sleep because they don't know how to block both Wake and Jones. As opposed to a sure-tackling MLB that D coordinators would just scheme around. Yes, Te'o is impressive but IMPACT plays in this league are much, much more important.
I would agree with your analysis in a normal situation, except the theory that a middle linebacker cannot inspire..Ray Lewis built a franchise to become one of the most fanatic fanbases in the game.. We're talking about this draft, if your telling me that you would take Keenan Allen over T'eo I'm gonna disagree, if your saying Jones, Werner, and Barr would have to make you think hard on who to select I would agree, it would be a difficult decision, but the state of the franchise, and the chance that this guy has something special on the field, and in the locker room, is the chance I'm willing to make.. When it gets closer to the draft, we will study those five or six defenders that are dynamic, see really where T'eo matches up on the field, and try to quantify the intangibles he could impact our franchise with...best overall man win.
Also remember UCF, I'm now placing intangibles a lot higher than most, and thats because of what I think it's going to take to win a championship in this town and in that stadium..
I don't think T'eo is as good as Lewis though from a talent perspective though. There is no way I would take Allen over any of those listed defensive players. I haven't had a chance to really evaluate Allen (but from what I saw I didn't like him). The one WR I would consider in the is Terrence Williams, but I think he is a late 1st to early 2nd prospect. We would only take him if we traded down. I would draft all three of the players you mentioned before Te'o. I'd rank them like this: 1.) Anthony Barr (incredible upside) 2.) Jarvis Jones 3.) Werner 4.) Te'o Honestly, I don't think I would take Te'o where we are picking. There is going to be someone that represents better value.
I feel confident that T'eo won't make it to us, don't think he'll get past Detroit at 8... If there weren't a handful of special defensive players available that may drop to us, it's Tyler Eiffert all the way, there isn't a better offensive skillset player available imo
Once again, I can't argue that T'eo is a better player than Barr, Jones, and Werner, on the field, what I feel I have to really to study, is how much difference there really is, and how much does the intangible part of Teo's game make up for it, or put him over the top, and how that relates to our franchises needs. I understand where your comin from..just need to see if Te'o is going to be as motivated to be a pro as he was a collegian.
This is what I'm hoping for. Not a lot of people like Jones but man he can get at the QB. I'm not opposed to drafting Te'o I just think we can get a bigger impact player.
