After upgrading to the 3.01 version, I haven't been able to link to certain pages, including Yahoo mail, the Herald, and others.

I get a message that tells reads "Gateway timeout" and the window title shows "504 Gateway timeout." I posted the question on Firefox's help forum but no one's answered. I also searched the forum and found a similar problem. Someone suggested typing about:config and then changing one of the values to false, but that hasn't worked either.

    Suggestions?

Michael, try to clear your browser cache. If that doesn't work, try to delete the cookies to the Miami Herald or one of the other affected sites to see if that clears it up.

Thanks Malcolm. I actually cleared my cache and deleted all of my cookies. Still no luck.

Okay are you on a wireless connection? If so repair it (if you are using windows to manage it just right click and hit repair). If not/that doesn't work, just unplug your wireless router and your broadband modem (do this even if your not on wireless). I've had this happen to me and it has worked.

It's a wired connection. I tried that and it didn't work.

I would restart my computer but you probably already have and then if that didn't work I would reinstall Firefox.

This may be your best item for help:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Cannot+connect+after+upgrading+Firefox

It's possible your firewall is blocking the new Firefox somehow. If you turn off your firewall temporarily, can you get to the sites?

Do you have any add-on Toolbars? (i.e. the Yahoo toolbar)
May want to ensure the version you are using doesn't need any upgrading.

Some Web pages (such as mlb.com) do not properly detect if Silverlight is installed and will not function properly (bug 432371). This issue is fixed by the Silverlight 2.0 beta.

On that same page, it talks about troubleshooting steps to ensure you don't have a bad add-in.

Thanks. I now have to find a time that the live chat is open.

This sounds like the most probable cause. Integrated anti-virus/firewall software these days also tracks program versions; if it detects a change, it sometimes thinks it's a virus and block access.

I was hoping that Silverlight was it as I had installed it recently to watch the Beijing opening ceremony and couldn't do it anyway because I don't live in the US. I deleted the programs but I still have the same problem.

Still no resolution and the Live chat people sent me a message that they couldn't help me when I reached my turn. It's back to IE for me.

any chance you can roll back to the last version of firefox michael?

my iphone & itunes did a similar problem to me as well.... i really try not to upgrade and with computer crap i'm moving more toward the ideology "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

hope you get it resolved brother.

Thanks. The problem is that Firefox automatically updates and doesn't give you a choice in the matter.

    I also sent their webmaster a not-too-kindly e-mail.
