http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/05/31/dolphins-never-close-on-an-evan-mathis-trade/ Certainly different than the "No team has made an offer" line from Chip Kelley. I don't know why the guy can't tell the simple truth that no team made an offer that he felt worth while instead of lying for no real reason. I always figured that this was the case.
No team is going to give up something for Mathis then have to pay him more money. The Eagles don't really have any leverage in a trade.
Both statements can easily be true. If team A talks to the Eagles about parameters but does not put an offer on the table then both statements ("close to a trade" and "no actual offer"). This happens in negotiations all the time. There was probably talk about the appropriate level of compensation for Mathis and the other team thought it was a bit too high and decided to see what they could get in the draft, and got someone they liked. It"s a difference of perspective because from Philly"s point of view the other party is just a tire kicker until they put an offer on the table.
We need Albert healthy. Other than that we're fine. Notice this thread is about how we did NOT trade for Mathis, or anyone else, nor was a high draft pick invested in the OL. Maybe the front office hasn't watched the OL either lol. I'd respectfully say that what we need is a fan base more informed about what's going on w the team.
Yeah...I'm sure that the coaches don't know what they're looking at...people on an internet forum know better. Granted, given how the oline has been the last couple years, I can see how people assume the coaches don't know what they're seeing.
I believe I'm seeing what the staff is seeing, guys already on the roster who can play at a decent level. What are you seeing?
The guard play is likely going to be as poor as last season. Unfortunately you can't throw money at every position, so the guys you are paying a lot for need to pick up the slack. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
What are the odds of Albert, Pouncey, and James all staying healthy in any given season? The idea that the FO does not believe Mathis is an upgrade is also inherently flawed. Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
Lamar Miller didn't run for 1100 or avg 5.1 by accident. Thomas was a problem at OT, any second grader can see that which is why it's important for Albert to be healthy. But all this OG talk is way over blown, like folks just need something to worry about. Even if the OG play doesn't improve, which is unlikely, it's only gonna be a problem in a handful of games.
Whats flawed is the idea that Hickey could snap his fingers and acquire Mathis. The real discussion is whether it'd be wise to trade for him and pay his asking price salary wise, no and no IMO.
you're disregarding that the coaches also have to factor in salary cap ramifications. ANyone with a brain can see that the dropoff between Mathis and Thomas is HUGE. Even if you hope optimistically (like I'm hoping) that Thomas can come up to your "decent" level, it's still a huge dropoff in talent. What I see as a fan as that we face 4 games a year vs top 5 Dlines in Buffalo and Jets, guard play will be huge if we want to win the division. I can attribute many of our division losses, especially vs Buffalo, to our guard play that could simply not contain Buffalo's pressure.
Because it just seems like Chip Kelly would rather make up certain things and dismiss them quickly, rather than to just tell the truth...every time that dude scratches behind his ear when talking is probably not true...Lol..
I think it's safe just to assume that everything he says is a lie until proven otherwise. I really, really don't like the guy.
Totally agree with all that. Handling the Jets/Bills DL will be key in those games, the Bills/Jets have our DL to worry about as well, pretty much every team on the schedule has our DL to worry about so big picture wise it's not something I'm overly concerned with.
