The Dolphins enter the offseason $24.7 million under the salary cap -- putting them in good position for free agency. That number could change some if a few veterans are cut, such as Ernest Wilford ($1.5 million salary in '09) or Reggie Torbor ($2.5 million). • The NFL said the Dolphins will draft 26th in the first round, but would move up to 25th if Philadelphia, San Diego or Arizona makes the Super Bowl. In his first mock draft, ESPN's Todd McShay has Miami picking Gators junior inside linebacker Brandon Spikes, with USC linebacker Brian Cushing and Alabama junior defensive tackle Terrence Cody going right before that. http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/columnists/barry-jackson/story/840551.html
Just what we need....another Florida LB. If that happens...you might as well load up the gun so I can
Does anyone know where $24.7 Million ranks relative to the rest of the NFL?? That seems like a ton of cap space, but if the leauge average is like $28 Million under the cap it doesn't look as good. Statistically speaking, I think there is a good chance moving up to pick number #25. Think about it there are 8 Teams left and if anyone of those 3 teams make it we move up. So its a 3/8 chance. For the people that argue a game is not a thing of 50-50 chance because of talent, coaching, etc. you are some what right; however in one single game anything can happen statistically speaking. If you averaged Chad Penningtons INTs over the regular season the numbers would probably project him to have 1 INT max, however he had 4... Anything can happen in one game. LETS GO CARDINALS, EAGLES, AND CHARGERS!!!!
We got it! Arizona and Philly both won which means one of them will be playing in the Super Bowl. That automatically gives one of them the 31st pick. In fact it gives them the second to last pick in every round. As a result the Dolphins have moved up a spot in every round. We have now have the 25th selection overall. Very cool.
Something else I noticed. Four teams went 11-5 last year. The Patriots, Falcons, Dolphins and Ravens. We're third in the pecking order which means the Patriots pick ahead of us in the 1st round. Round 1 23 Patriots 24 Falcons 25 Dolphins 26 Ravens However, when we rotate the 2nd and 3rd round will look like this. Round 2 55 Falcons 56 Dolphins 57 Ravens 58 Patriots Round 3 87 Dolphins 88 Ravens 89 Patriots 90 Falcons The Pats might screw us in the 1st round by selecting a player we want but we will be in a position to screw them in the 2nd and 3rd round. That puts a smile on my face.
Yep. That's set in stone. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80dc0fdd&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true We got pretty lucky there because we could have just as easily ended up with the 48th pick instead of the 44th. BTW that extra pick we got from the Redskins also means we can screw the Jets in the 2nd round by drafting a player they might have their eyes on.
The #44 is a great pick to have, it is still in the shadow of doubt of the late 1st rounders, 12 picks away from the end of round 1, that is where Scouts views diverge... We can hopefully mop up with a OLB or ILB or spend on a top flight Safety prospect...or...Wr...and I don't like taking Wr early.
Looks like at least one happened, rick. I don't see us picking Spikes either, as there should be some good prospects at DT/OLB still left on the board at that point. Both of which are, imo, a more pertinent need. I would love to see another game changer drafted in the 1st like we had last year. (and if you don't think that JLong was a game-changer, you're smoking somethin'...and it ain't legal.)
No **** man! Color me shocked! I didn't think there was any way in hell the Cardinals would beat the Panthers! That was a stunner. I kinda wish the Chargers had won too, so we could keep alive the possibility of an 8-8 team playing a 9-7 team in the SuperBowl...
Picking 25 now, very nice. I'll take that. And that 44th pick is just saweet. Especially considering we didn't even miss JT this year. Great trade by the FO.
Eric Berry would never make it to #25. If you are knocking the Brandon Spikes pick then I suggest you watch the kid play because he is the best natural linebacker in this draft. Trendy names such as James Laurinaitis and Rey Maualuga are nowhere near the play of Brandon Spikes. Spikes is a perfect fit for Miami b/c of his versatility. I know Aaron Curry is very good and is getting a lot of the hype of if he is 1A than spikes is 1B.
#44 is the crucial pick of this draft. 1st Round talent will fall due to the wealth of Juniors declaring. could Clint Sintim fall to #44? Sean Smith? Larry English? Someone has to fall that far. Even Boomer would agree with me that Brandon Spikes at #25 and clint Sintim at #44 would be marvelous. Right Boom?
I highly doubt Sean Smith or Clint Sintim fall to 44. I'm not even sure Larry English falls to there to be honest.
If Barwin tests out well I don't even know if he makes it there, don't expect any of the three you mentioned to be there, though I think order of likelihood goes Smith, Sintim, English. (I like Sintim more, but I don't know how many 4-3 teams would want him as OLB, but I think 4-3 teams can use English as a DE). I am personally hoping that Barwin is there, but also looking at Britt, Rashad Johnson, and Louis Delmas at 44 (in that order).
I think that there's so many conversion players here that its very difficult to place them. I'm going to go and say that Connor Barwin would likely be there. I have to wonder if a guy like Matt Shaugnessey will be there as well. He's a much better player standing up than with his hand in the dirt IMO. I like Rashad Johnson and Kenny Britt as well but I haven't seen any of Louis Delmas. I wish I did though. I know Boom speaks highly of him.
well, we all said Quentin Groves wouldn't get as far into the second as he did. I wouldn't be surprised if some athletic freaks leapfrog Sintim
True. There were a few of us at the last draft who continually were saying: "they gotta be taking Groves."
I think Spikes is overrated to this point as I'm sure you know. I think he's excellent in coverage and I wonder whether he's not better suited outside in a 3-4.
I thought Dan Conner was a lock to be a dolphin this season. So far, it would seem the consensus is we go LB heavy this draft, which makes sense, save for Sparano mentioning that he was an old line coach and he wanted everything, and that you need other pieces, but they were looking to upgrade the lines again.. I think we could use a Elephant type of player, Vonnie just couldn't pull it off, and Roth was good at what he was good at, but we need a true up or down type of pass rusher IMO.
