Cool video. I wonder how much of that is cutscene, and how much is similar to what you would see just walking around the game's world. Also curious as to how many of those beasts will be combat foes.

That's all in game as far as I can tell, and I'm sure all of them are fightable. Many of them are monsters from past FF games. Yes, even the red frog.

Well, if so, thats about the suckiest video game news I've had all year. Hasn't Square said many times that they waiting to reveal the Sep 30th date because they wanted to make sure it was going to stick? I'll cross my fingers that the news is wrong.

They did, and this wouldn't be the first time a company has been embarrassed by its own actions.

My guess is that they're having trouble getting a consistent 30 FPS.

Kotaku is confirming the delay, which makes me think it's fake.

If its true, that its being delayed until the Tuesday following Black Friday, it makes me concerned that its a ploy by someone outside of game design thinking that it will somehow increase sales closer to the holidays. Also unfortunate, as its something of a tradition (intentional or not) that many of the games in the series have been released in September or early October in the US, so the Sep 30th date was keeping in line with that.

    http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/08/15/final-fantasy-xv-delay-confirmed-new-release-date-announced/

The delay has been confirmed by Square, with BS reasoning that even though the master copy of the game is complete, they need to polish the day one patch. Polish a patch for three and a half months??? They may also push back the Blu Ray release of the movie now too, which is meaningful to me, because I was thinking of demanding my preorder money back from the deluxe ed of the game and buying the movie in October. Its all such a mess, and I really do have to believe that someone got involved and decided that the post-Thanksgiving date would be better for first week sales or something like that. :headwall::cursing:

Sucks that it is pushed back two months, but at least everyone gets the 'patch' this way I suppose.

And what's another two months when it has already been so many years.

When it eventually gets released, it will apparently take up 45G or more on the PS4's hard drive. I may need to delete a few more games.

I've swapped out plenty of desktop hard drives, but I'm hesitant to do it with the PS4. I may eventually have to though. For now, I can just delete games I'm unlikely to play again in the near future if it comes to it.

It doesn't look that difficult. Just pull open the access cover and unscrew the mount.

Anyway, have a 53 minute video overview of Final Fantasy XV Master Version.

Apparently, the official story is that the delay has been made to avoid the need for a day one patch, which would have been huge, in deference to gamers without access to a good connection. As one of those people, I suppose I'm thankful, if thats true, though I've also grown accustomed to large patches, and spending parts of multiple days downloading them onto the PS4.

I call BS on that. If they needed two months to do the work equivalent to a day one patch, how did they originally plan to get the game out at the end of the month? The timeline makes no sense.

All signs point to them being unable to get the game stable at 30 FPS on current gen hardware.

I doubt there's not more to it than the patch as well. Hard to swallow.

On another note, there are rumors all over the place that the FF7 remake's first installment will be released in Q2, 2017. If true, then I wonder when they'll release the remaster of ff12? Also likely leaves me with quite the traffic jam of games that I'm interested in, once we reach that point. That can be a good problem to have though, since it means that I'll buy some of them later on, cheaper and more fully patched.

FF12ZA is hard to peg. I thought they would have released it this year, in its 10th anniversary. (Yes, we're all friggin' old.) But they wanted to give FF15 as much focus as possible. So my guess is that FF7R1 comes out Q2 or Q3 2017, and FF12ZA is an early Q4 offering, or possibly Q1 2018.

Yeah, 2006 was the year I got married, and I started a new job, so its easy to peg for me. Its been a while.

On another note, from game director Tabata:

So, hopefully they can now get new games together much quicker, and we can get a new one every 2-3 years like it used to be. I've been playing the series for 25 years, and I'd like to for another 25 more.

Only the first half of FF15 is open world, apparently, while the second half is linear. Thats fine, but the question then is, can we leave the linear areas to go back to the open ones once we've crossed a certain threshold? For much of 13, once you were through an area, you were done, and could never return. I hate that.

If it's "a traditionally Final Fantasy style progression" then you should be able to backtrack and do fun stuff/side quests at your leisure. It sounds to me like all he's saying is that the story progression changes from a mission/exploration type structure to a plot-based "we all need to go do this thing" structure, the latter being the "traditionally Final Fantasy style progression."

Granted, there were certain points at which you couldn't backtrack—in FF5, you couldn't return to World 1 after going to World 2, for instance—but generally FF lets you revisit the areas you've already explored.

Yes. Up until 13, that was a very reliable quality of the games. Nearly all areas could be revisited or re-explored to get loot and level up killing monsters. For me, thats why the chane in style in 13 was so jarring.

Looks like FF15's second half is linear is because the mode of transportation changes from car to train for plot-based reasons.

Not sure why you can't just hop a train and return to the previous station, though.

The article states that frame rate drops, along with the big patch, are the reason for the delay, so there you go.

This is also a long, balanced article about the game from a guy who says he played the first four hours the week before the delay was announced.

FF12 is highly underrated. I think FF9 gets the sort of devoted attention FF12 should have. I never beat FF12, but I'm looking forward to playing the inevitable PC version of this and beating it then.

That said, it's quite obvious they didn't do new art assets and just refined the existing PS2 work. Looks better than it would in an emulator, though.

I completed the story for 12, and did a lot of leveling and exploring, but there were numerous quests that I had to give up on. I look forward to digging back into all of that, plus the whole new character development system.

I didn't know (or realize at least) until today that the other FF game, World of Final Fantasy, is releasing on October 25th. I'd thought before that it was coming out in 2017. I imagine that the initial sales of the game will be much, much better than they otherwise would have been, with 15 not coming out for an entire month afterwards. I'm sure that was never a consideration when they chose the dates though....:shifty: Even though there are zero other games coming out the rest of the year that I'd be interested in, I'm still going to hold off on FF Jr, I think. Might check it out later when its cheap.
