Might as well put this here since it involves FFXV hype train.

FFX and X-2 HD are releasing on Steam in about 2 hours. and they're FPS capped at 30 because Square-Enix makes crappy PC ports.

I enjoyed playing them a few years back on the PS3. Glad that you PC guys get to as well if you liked them.

PC guys have been able to emulate the original for a decade now.

What bugs me is that Square-Enix never tries to improve their PC versions, they just establish 1:1 parity with the console version and call it done. FF4 is limited to 15 FPS in battle. FIFTEEN FRAMES PER SECOND ON A GTX 780 ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

Well, with SNES graphics, and it being a turn based RPG, does the framerate matter all that much?

The PC version of FF4 is a port of the 3DS remake. It's not SNES graphics.

Thanks for the link. I'm excited to watch it when I get the chance.

EDIT: Stunningly beautiful. They're really done it the right way, and lived up to their potential. However, I now have this creeping worry about how many of those amazing places we'll be able to explore, spend time in, and return to....and how many will be like FF13, where you're there for one brief period and then can never go back. I guess we'll find out.

A new blog up about FF15. Some new news in here, even if it isn't all great news. The details about the game world are mixed, but at least he said that we can travel back to places once we've unlocked them up until the end of the game. It was so frustrating to not be able to do that in 13.

So a remaster of FF-XII with the International Zodiac System has been announced for PS4?

I saw that this morning and threw my hands into the air like the Fins had just scored a TD . Apparently it will be released in Japan in 2017, and will be the "International Zodiac Jobs System" that Desides has mentioned in the past. I'm sure that we'll find out exact release dates for the US later on, but as long as its really happening, I'm a happy camper. Between 15 looking great, the 7 ground up remake, and now this, Square is on fire.

Yea, I'll be pretty happy to get to play it, though with the Zodiac system, I imagine the guide I have may not be appropriate any longer.

I know I got my ps3 almost right after getting FF-XII, so I never finished playing it, so I'll be quite happy to get to go back to it in a more visually appealing package.

The FFXII remake got spoiled months ago, but good to know it's the IZJS version and that it's been offically announced. Gives me time to beat the FFX remake before it comes out.

Info and screenshots. The remaster is based on FF12 International Zodiac Job System, which introduced the job system (locking a character to a job for the entirety of the game), rebalanced the entire game, customized license boards for every character, and changed the locations and contents of almost all the treasure chests.

Yeah, but my guide is still a thing of beauty ten years later . It was the first deluxe edition guide that I ever bought. I actually bought the game on the same purchase as my first PS3, and never played it on the PS2. Had the original PS3 not had backwards compatibility, I'd have likely held off on getting one until I was done with the game. As it was, I played FF12 and that year's PS2 edition of Madden for months before ever getting an actual PS3 game in 2007. The PS3 did a much better job of playing games on the then new HDTV I'd gotten than the PS2, and of course it had a bluray player.

The screenshots look great! More like a good PS3 game than a PS2. I've read that the improvements aren't as drastic as those for the PS4 version of FFX/X-2, but since I played the PS3 remaster of those, I'm expecting something along those lines. Either way, this jumps near the top of my list for 2017 games.

    http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/06/06/final-fantasy-xii-the-zodiac-age-launches-on-ps4-in-2017/

EDIT: This official Playstation blog says several times that it will be a US release next year, so that removes any worry I had that it would be Japan Autumn 2017 and the US 2018.

As we await news on all of the upcoming FF games, I found this list ranking the existing main line single player titles from top to bottom:

    http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/05/15/ranking-the-final-fantasy-games?page=2

Its well done and well thought out, but as usual, I disagree on several levels. I was pleased that they ranked the game I know as FF3 (VI) as #1, and 12 as #2. Those would be my choices as well. But they ranked the game last on my personal list, IX, at #3, and its predecessor VIII, at #11. Perhaps as a moody, depressed guy around age 20, 8 just fit my life at the time better, but its how I remember them. I haven't ever played the titles from the NES and SNES that weren't released during their consoles heyday, so I can't speak to how good or bad those three games are.

    My list would probably be:

    1. III (VI) SNES
    2. XII (PS2)
    3. VII (PS1)
    4. X (PS2)
    5. II (IV) SNES
    6. VIII (PS1)
    7. I (NES)
    8. XIII (PS3)
    9.
    10.
    11.
    12. IX (PS1)

Biggest criticism of your list: IV is in 5th place. IV revolutionized the entire series and the JRPG genre as a whole. That should be #1 just on accomplishment.

VII outside of first place is fine. IX last and XIII not last is an abomination.

It was absolutely revolutionary, but I also haven't played it in about 25 years or so, give or take, and I also remember what another big step up its successor was. The game I knew as FF2 was terrific, and tons of fun, but the one I then knew as FF3 took it to a whole different level. 9 is the only one on the list I didn't complete. I just quit wasting my time with it because I hated all of the characters and the world of the game in general. I just found it in no way enjoyable. When X came out, it felt to me like they had righted the ship after going off on a really bizarre tangent.

But FF5 wasn't a big step up. In many respects, it was a sidegrade. :shifty:

Well again, going on 20+ year old memories, but it seemed like they took everything that they'd done in the first SNES game, and did it bigger and better. The graphics seemed smoother, there was a bigger variety of what the characters could do, there were certainly more party members (the cast was HUGE!!!), and the story and game were just enormous. If that were all to be fleshed out into a modern remake using the same outline, it would be a 300+ hour experience, lol. (And I'd love every minute)

    Another surprise from Square.

I can't say that I would be interested, even as someone who's a bit FF obsessed. It does remind me of SNES era side scrolling brawlers though, like the TNMT game. Loved that when I was in high school, but that was more than 20 years ago.

Imagine if your friends actually could connect to your game and play the other characters, ala Borderlands. VR mode already lets you play as Prompto instead of Noctis, after all.

    FF8's Draw System coming back?

    Curious.

So they spend all this effort downscaling on consoles to hit 30 FPS, but won't optimize their PC ports and unlock the frame rate. Absolutely damn infuriating.

Kingsglaive is now available as a Blu-ray disc to preorder on Amazon. It also comes with the five episode anime Brotherhood. At $35.99, its not a bargain, since it would cost more to buy the standard edition of the game and the movie seperately than it would to buy the deluxe edition of the game that includes it, but its still nice to know its out there and will be available. If the price drops before the end of September, I might pick it up and then get the regular game.

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H2RR7F...TF8&colid=37S13AECN55Y1&coliid=I1KZ2KIVZ353QH

Edit: There's now a version on Amazon without the anime, selling for $26.99. No release date set, but I guess it will be after it does its limited cinema showing in late August.

A bunch of screen shots here, scanned from a magazine. Lots of scenes and monsters/animals that I hadn't seen before, and they look really good. Right now, without the game in my hands, I would say that the game looks good, but maybe not as good as some other PS4 titles, though it does really look like a FF game.

    http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/06...on-famitsu-tidus-celes-edgar-shelke-and-more/

Similarly, a bunch of shots from World of FF also. I still really don't know what to make of this game. Looks cute and nostalgic, especially for those of us who have been with the series since day 1, but I want more details on what it actually is. The shots seem to show "worlds" from several FF games, which is cool.

The game looks excellent to me, and this is even after they've neutered the resolution to hit 30 FPS. What games do you think look better?

Again, just based on the few videos and screen shots I've seen, the character models of the Witcher 3 and Uncharted look somewhat better. Not to say that FFXV looks poor by any means, it looks very good. I'm curious to see how they do facial expression and lip synch as well, since those games and DA:I all did such an awesome job.

The Witcher 3 in-game did not look as good as its press release screenshots. Mods were required to reach that level.

Can't comment on Uncharted 4, but nothing I'm seeing that's actually in game looks noticeably better. I would say FF15 has better lighting and slightly less detailed environments, making it a wash.

OK. Mods are foreign to me as a console gamer, but in my personal gaming experience, the player models of the main characters in The Witcher were the best I've ever seen, and the game was gorgeous. If FFXV can equal it, or even come close, I'll be delighted. Much of what they've shown so far seems to either be at night and/or in the desert, so I think once we get to play in more diverse enviornments, it will be more telling.

You can play two FFXV demos right now, and the graphical quality there is lesser than what you'll get in the final game, so rough comparison should be easy as of this moment.

Isn't Episode Duscae only available if you bought FF Type 0 HD? I don't recall it being available to download from the PS store, only the Platinum Demo.

At this point, I'm not interested in a demo anyways. Just looking forward to playing the game for real and experiencing it for the first time then. My local Gamestop and Best Buy said that they don't know yet if they'll be stocking Blu Ray copies of Kingslaive ahead of the game.

I've seen several places note that the original Final Fantasy was released in the US this week in 1990. It was the first game I ever remember getting really excited over months before its release, thanks to Nintendo Power magazine. First strategy guide I ever owned. And I got the game the last weekend of September that year, which will be exactly 26 years before FF15 comes out, so its a fun anniversary for me. :knucks:

This article has some good screen shots (actually pictures of screenshots from a magazine, so the quality suffers), including some of new NPCs. It also reveals that the game will have a "mob hunt" system, where you take out contracts to kill certain monsters, which I always enjoy.

    http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/07...pan-grosses-over-100-million-yen-in-ten-days/

They also note that in Japan, the theatrical release of Kingslaive was seen by over 70,000 people and earned almost a million dollars at the box office. Since thats all basically icing on the cake, sounds like good news for Square.

I haven't seen an official confirmation yet, but several FF blogs have posted that the stand alone Blu Ray for Kingslaive will go on sale on Oct 4, which seems like a really odd choice, as its a prequal. Wouldn't they want as many people as possible to buy it ahead of the game? Looks like I'll be definately preordering the Deluxe edition that includes it.

EDIT: The movie will be available for digital download on Aug 30th. The Oct 4 date is correct for physical copies. No word on why the five week gap, unless I guess there are production issues of some sort.

Went to Gamestop and preordered the Deluxe Edition and the Collector's Ed. guide. Plan is to buy the game that morning, install it that afternoon, watch Kingslaive with my wife that evening, and then play the game into the wee hours that night.
