Ok. That's cool. I remembered that was Cids last name in 7. Always one of my favorite characters to use. Loved Kain's leap/drop attack too.
Aranea executes a Jump attack at the end of the trailer. Looks pretty violent and accurate to the traditional Dragoon Jump command.
Thank you for posting it, it was really cool. Watching it, it feels like a modern take on the traditional FF motif. Traditional enemies realized in todays technology. My only concern is how extremely dark is it, but maybe I can fix that in my settings. I could barely see the characters a lot in the early part.
2 new screenshots. Looks like we get to play as young/child Noctis at some point. In the original FF Versus 13, Noctis and Stella received supernatural powers by returning from death or a near death experience. I wonder how much of that plot point survives now that FF15 is somewhat separated from the FF13 mythology, and if this screenshot hints that the plot point survives and we'll play through it.
Here's an interview from what seems to be the official PR staff of the game. Its in English, translated from Japanese. Not a lot of groundbreaking news, but still cool to hear from one of the developers directly. http://eu.square-enix.com/en/blog/final-fantasy-xv-interview-environment-artist-hiromitsu-sasaki-0 I liked this bit:
While that level of attention to detail is cool, it's probably one of the reasons the game has been delayed forever. FFXIV syndrome.
http://www.vg247.com/2016/03/24/final-fantasy-15-ps4-xbox-one-30fps/ The 50 hours of course should be taken with a grain of salt. If its like all other FF games (though I'm not sure that it is), players like me are likely to double that amount grinding and hunting for equipment. The game map provided by Desides a while back looks enormous, and I'm sure that I'll spend a lot of time wandering around finding everything that I can.
The term "scenario" is a fairly specific word usage, to me. I think they mean that the total sum of mandatory plot related actions and sequences will be 50 hours. That discussion about the difficulty in some areas of hitting a 30 FPS target is a bit... eh. I'll probably wait for the PC version and hope it isn't framecapped to hell.
Well, thats how I took it too. That if you do the necessary work to get through the story, its 50 hours or so. Thankfully, we have sidequests and grinding!
Given the size of the in-game world, I'd be surprised if a casual playthrough took less than 70 hours to complete.
http://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15-release-date-leak-gameplay-carbuncle/ The Sep 30th date seems to be confirmed now, and some leaked gameplay footage ahead of tonight's event.
OK, recapping the news that was all dropped by Square last night: >The game will in fact be released on September 30th. >There will be a series of 10 minute anime shorts that will function as a prequel leading up to the events of the game. They will be available on Youtube. http://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15-brotherhood-anime-843/ >The will be another demo, maybe available for download as soon as today. http://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15-platinum-demo-available-848/ >Most surprisingly, there will be a full length CGI animated movie released ahead of the game that features voice actors Sean Bean, Lene Headey and Aaron Paul, who will also voice characters in the game itself. It will also be a prequel to the game. Boom! http://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15-feature-film-kingsglaive-911/ I'll be holding out hopes for a DVD release as well.
There's also like a $260+ ultimate collector's edition. I will be passing. Hopefully there is another version besides that one with the soundtrack.
Yesterday's official trailer. Damn I want them to make another animated movie - I really liked Spirits Within. Game cinematic looks amazing, no one does them better.
Correction, the cast of the movie will not be the same as the game. The original article that I read was incorrect. And while I guess that makes sense on one hand in that these higher priced Hollywood actors would likely cost a lot more than traditional game voice actors, its odd that they then wouldn't just use the same voice cast.
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/03/17/final-fantasy-15-episode-duscae-demo-is-629gb The demo is 5.27 GB on the PS4 and 6.29 GB on the XBOX1. I'm pleasantly surprised at the size. I thought that it would be much larger. I'll be able to get it myself and try it out.
http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2016/03/pick_the_right_final_fantasy_xv_special_edition_for_you Details of the different versions of the game that will be on sale. I haven't bought a Deluxe Edition of a game in a while, but I think that I will with this in order to get the copy of the movie. Which means that I'll likely have to either order the game on Amazon, or reserve it somewhere, which I also haven't done in a few years.
The movie will be available separately from the deluxe edition. No need to buy the deluxe edition just to get it.
Have you read anywhere about when it might be released ? Square didn't seem to say at the show. My thing is that I want to make sure that I watch it before I play the game, and I worry about it being sold out if the releases are the same day. And I'm not waiting one second longer than I have to before I play the game, lol.
It's a standalone 2 hour movie. You can buy it separately, and it'll be available to stream/download (for a price, of course) before FFXV's release.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Anyway, the Platinum demo is apparently not being received well by people who think their opinions matter: Yeah, there's tech demo stuff in there, but they're missing the point that the demo is the combat system. This is the same site that's spent 3 years running articles telling us how insecure Square-Enix is about selling turn-based combat to Millennials (The Dumbest Generation) and how they've spent forever trying to find something new to appeal to the new generation. Well, it would seem to be the KH formula, and they kind of need to prove that it works in FF, so here's a demo for it.
I'll say this. Based on all the promo material, the trailers, the two demos, and everything that's been put out on this game since Hajime Tabata took over for Tetsuya Nomura… … This might actually work.
I'd be curious about the demographics of the sales in the us. How many ff gamers have been there since the early days. How many since the glory days of the ps1. How many younger ones who are new to the series.
Most of the classic fans have likely moved on due to the classic elements having been dropped for a decade. Also, getting older, having kids of their own, etc etc. But for the last year or two, we've started seeing an appeal to those now 25-34 year olds. I think that has to do with people waiting longer to get married, so the theory is that the 16-25 demographic actually now bleeds into the 25-34 year old demographic in terms of willingness to spend disposable income on video games and other media. And 25-34 year olds in theory have more money than 16-25 year olds, which appeals to companies. The sales breakdown likely skews younger as you get to the newer titles.
I haven't played Platinum, but I loved Episode Duscae (even before the 2.0 improvement). As for demographics, I'm obviously in the older of the two groups, but married (at 26) and without kids. Given my residence here, I think it's clear I still buy video games.
I'll say this, I have far less time for video games than I used to. I'm also getting more invested in my career and trying to move up. I still make time for games, but I'm more committed to a few games that I replay rather than constantly plowing through new games. I just don't have the time for that anymore. FF15 feels like something I'll play through and spend months on.
At 38, I'm obviously older than you guys are, and I'm increasingly aware that I'm becoming an old timer in general with gaming these days too. However, I do think that a larger portion of my generation will continue gaming as we get older than past ones, due to the fact that we grew up with it our entire lives and the previous ones didn't. Having a wife and two kids is a big responsibility and takes a lot of time, but I don't have any other hobbies beyond gaming and watching football and baseball, and I don't watch much TV anymore, so finding 90 minutes to two hours to play most nights after the kids have gone to bed isn't hard. I'm also fortunate to have a wife who actually enjoys watching me play games that have a story, such as the FF, AC and Uncharted series, and she still does some gaming of her own with other RPGs and games like Ratchet and Clank.
I definitely have less time to game in the past because of work, but I don't plan to give it up as I get older. I do believe currently that this will be my last console generation though. I'm pretty sure I'll move strictly to PC after this generation ends, although it may depend somewhat on my wife as she likes to game as well.
http://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15-pc-version-118/ A few more tidbits. >Square absolutely isn't saying no to a PC version of the game, but hasn't committed to one yet either. If there is one, it will come later. >FFXV will be at E3 and other shows this coming summer in playable form. >There might be post launch DLC for the game, but it isn't certain. Previous FF DLC has been small and mostly cosmetic, so new missions would be a first.
There's been talk about an airship DLC. That would be interesting. Not sure how it would work, though. And there will absolutely be a PC version. That isn't even up for debate, IMO.
http://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15-airship-details/ Look as if the Regalia, the car that the players aquire early in the game that was shown to transform into a flying machine in the trailer, is in fact the airship in the game. There also seems to now be confirmation that there will be some sort of mission DLC coming later as well: http://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15-dlc-fps-pc-version/
Tabata: FF7 is the most popular FF game, we want to surpass it. Tall order. For his sake, and Square-Enix's sake, and the franchise's sake, I hope it happens. Dragon Quest has been consistently excellent for three decades, while Final Fantasy has slid into ruin under Motomu "**** You" Toriyama.
I haven't played every game, but I have played every single player one that's been released as new in the US, and I've basically been there since the beginning. I've said before how important the franchise has been to be as a gamer, so I desperately want to see them get back on top. Its been a decade since we've had a good game. That's obviously a huge gap, and would have killed many other studios.
It's a bit weird how FF has devolved into a series of spinoffs. And frightening. They need a primary numbered series and one or two associated spinoffs per console gen. Less is more.
