Release date will be announced in March 2016.

And here's the full footage of all the stuff shown at PAX Prime. The party's car is drivable in first or third person mode, or you can just set waypoints and let it automatically drive itself. You can drive in manual or automatic gears (I think). There's gas, so if you run out, you have to push the car to a gas station or call the mechanic for a pickup.

The game looks fantastic. I love the fact that the car can run out of gas. What a fun detail. As someone who's ultra careful, I'm curious how much of a worry that will actually be.

It's probably there as a gameplay mechanic because it's going to be integrated into the plot somehow. Sort of like how the car breaks down in the Episode Duscae demo, forcing the party to stay in the Duscae region.

Not only is it fully explorable, I believe it's not even the full map. Several segments are cropped out, and for sure they've mentioned the ability to go to another continent. So this looks like just one continent of the world map, IMO.

So, this painting appears in game. It was painted hundreds of years prior to the start of the game and is famous in the game world. It depicts the Eidolons creating the world.

My question: is that Ultros from Final Fantasy VI down there in the lower left?!

Well, then it looks like the FF series has a good chance of retaking the lead in "game I've dumped the most time into one playthrough", after losing it to Skyrim and then The Witcher 3.

That's an excellent article. Thanks for the link. As a LONG term FF guy, I have my share of reservations about the gameplay, and apparently only controlling one character- I've long made one of the secondary party member's from the games my primary. I'm confused as to the weapons. Does this mean that we can't buy and find new swords and armor, for example? Those are jarring changes. Still, I'm excited, and can't wait to see it myself.

The world map is 786 square miles.

    Seven hundred eighty six.

Never mess with Japan when it comes to scale.

I have nowhere else to put this, so I'll put it here. Final Fantasy IX announced for Steam, mobile.

"High definition" is a stretch, as it's clearly just the original art assets being run through a texture filter, just like emulators. Still, if you aren't into emulation, here you go.

Easily my least favorite FF title of those I've played, and the only one I just quit on and walked away.

    http://gamerant.com/final-fantasy-15-no-difficulty-settings/

Apparently, the game will not feature different difficulty settings, but will offer different ways to go through battles, from slow and methodical to fast and action packed. I'm someone who always plays RPGs on default, so I think its not something that will effect me all that much. I do disagree with this quote though, on a personal level:

The battle system in FF12 is my favorite of any game. I was really sad that they completely threw it away for FF13 and its sidekicks. I'm aware that 15 will be more action oriented though, more like Dragon Age and The Witcher than a traditional FF title. Times change.

There are two battle systems. There's an action-like battle system and a more sedate battle system that's probably more akin to a traditional turn based style. You get to choose which one you want to use, and I think you can swap between them at any time via the options menu.

That's probably the best way to do something like this. Everyone should be happy.

I'm interested to see how they make it all work. I'll likely start with the slower mode, and check the other one out while fighting enemies who are easy to kill.

"Final Fantasy XV Can’t Afford to Disappoint After a Troubling Decade"

You don't say! The article descends from here into a load of crap. Such as:

Final Fantasy XI was an enormous success. It's still Square-Enix's highest-grossing game. They made money hand over fist on FFXI. It was not the beginning of any troubles, it was the solution to financial troubles that began with the Final Fantasy movie. Similarly, FF14 is now extremely popular now that they've basically redeveloped the game and fixed the awful, terrible launch.

Again: FF11 and FF14 are two of the best-received games in the series. I personally don't like them, but they are undeniable hits.

I'll take your word for it, as I cannot play the online games. I've said before how much I loved FF12, but I understand that many do not. And I basically agree with the author about 13. Beautiful, but frustrating as Hell, and seemed to build and build towards something, and then just kind of ended. It was a weird game in that it seemed to be intentionally depressing. And then the other two games in the series were hot garbage.

For me, as a long term FF junkie (as far as the main numbered, single player games released in the US), I feel that we've had one mediocre game since 2006. Thats a long time to wait. And while I really, really want 15 to be awesome, I understand that if its not, it may be hard for Square to come back from, regardless of what happens with the 7 remake.

Ultimately, the best way to evaluate FF15 is to play the demo. If you like it but have some nags, then those nags are probably on the list to get fixed. If you don't like it, then odds are you aren't going to like the full game.

I'm still waiting to see if Dragon Quest XI is coming to PC before taking the plunge on a PS4.

FFXV Japanese Twitter confirms FFXV will get a stage event at the Taipei Game Show. January 31. This is probably the last we'll see of it before the March event announcing the release date.

Environment destruction through magic isn't new. You can see it in the Episode Duscae demo, when Ramuh gets summoned. Judgment Bolt starts grass fires and leaves scorched earth.

I wonder if using lightning magic while standing in water will zap everyone standing in the same body.

I just want to know when Hajime Tabata decided that Final Fantasy needed more Metal Gear and Call of Duty. I'm not complaining about a stealth segment, but… wow, hopping on a mounted gun feels really out of place.

Excited for a new Highwind character. Hopefully she's at least half as well written as Kain.

Yes, Kain Highwind, Final Fantasy 4. You need to adapt to the correct numbering scheme. There was a Ricard Highwind in the real FF2, so by saying "the Highwind guy from FF2" you're talking about Ricard, not Kain.

There are four Highwinds: Ricard (FF2), Kain (FF4), Cid (FF7), and now Aranea (FF15). They're not related, even though the FF4 DS remake drops a hint that Kain's father's name was also Ricard.
