Military jet crashes in San Diego neighborhood - CNN.com From what I heard it was very close to the University Town Center and on Genesee Ave and Nobel. Haven't been there in a while but I believe there's a school near by and it's around the UCSD area. 1 house and 2 cars on fire they say. I hope no one was hurt because I know a lot of people who live in that region.
Not to worry, jdang is safe! FFIC should be as well if he is at home in O-Side. Yeah this happened in University City, pretty much in the middle of the north side of the city.
lol, damn, I mean good. Saw, the map, it is north of the city and close to the Miramar base. Only person I know who lives there has finals so he'd probably be away.
Saw that on tv this evening... They were just saying the pilot was practicing carrier landings and was returning to base at mirimar when the f-18 apparently had engine troubles, causing it to crash.. quickly turning into a sad story...

Two people killed in the home has just been confirmed. Officials: 2 dead, 2 missing after military jet crash - CNN.com
It is very sad. I believe they are instructed to dump the aircraft over the water if they can. The helicopters go up and down the coast line all the time. It must of been bad if he couldn't make it back to Miramar. May they rest in peace.
That sucks. I thought the house was empty. A grandma, a mother and two children? Anyone dying is bad enough, but could it be worse than that?
Witness was doing a phone interview on Channel 10 news here. She found the pilot. He said he was on one engine for 100 miles to the person on the ground. He was on a training mission off the coast. He thought he could make it, but then had to eject. Two homes destroyed, and two homes damaged. http://www.10news.com/index.html
They had an interview that I saw on CNN earlier this afternoon. Saw the pilot's chute and they were wondering why there wasn't a 2nd because the F/A-18 was a two-seater.
Could of been solo since the training mission was just off the coast here, and with other pilots at conflicts around the world.
Those were my thoughts as well when I heard them discuss it. Best case scenario it was a solo flight, worst case, either the pilot or RIO's chute didn't open. Thankfully it was the former though unfortunately there weren't too many things to be thankful for in this catastrophe.
Crash was just 2 miles from my friend's apartment and she could still see the smoke after she got back.
