Thanks to CK for finding the video on Youtube, and thanks to the Rams fan who cut the video up.

I haven't watch much of it yet, but amazing TD grab (IMO) vs the Lions.

Are the contract details out yet?

In the way he catches with his actual hands most of the time yes. Unfortunately where they differ is after the catch, OG would look to obliterate a defensive back, Gibson seems to be looking for someone with a camera to take his picture. Definitely some potential in the red zone as a result, and that could be where he differs for us in production from Hartline. In some ways Gibson looks like he catches every ball like he thinks he is in the endzone.

Solid hands but there is no YAC, none at all.

Also he celebrates after every catch.

Yeah the way he catches and the fact they seem to be important plays. OG wasn't much with the ball in his hands either. He was more physical, though.

Seems to make quite a few tough catches... Along with a few drops that he could of easily had.

Rotoworld had a stat that was something to the effect of he was the 2nd ranked player on targets going for a 1st down or TD. Says a lot, imo.

OG would be one of my all time favourite dolphin players. Always remember an exasperated Ty Law saying trying to cover Gadsden was like "trying to cover a gorilla".

Well, I don't think anybody on the roster last season does what he does at 8:20. That's the only real instance of good YAC I've seen so far though.

I honestly don't see any reason why anyone wouldn't be tickled to death to have him as the 4th WR. He had a few drops but always on the tougher catches. Reliable on the gimmes and makes some really difficult catches at times as well. Kind of guy who'll help move the chains.

500% more TDs than Hartline last season. :chuckle:

Bottom line IMO, having Bess and Gibson as the 3rd and 4th WRs is NO reason to not take Austin. None whatsoever!!!

I didn't know much about Gibson prior to the Dolphins interest in him during this free agency period. He looks like a solid short yardage receiver. He and Bess should be able to create problems for defenses on third down, while Hartline and Wallace provide the options on longer routes.

I am sure that great one handed catch by Gibson in the game against the Dolphins certainly opened some eyes of the coaching staff and Ireland when they were discussing adding a WR in free agency.

Three things stick out to me about Gibson:

    1) He's an excellent route runner. I don't know what the hell Bradford was doing throwing the comeback to Gibson against Arizona, but he knew it was the wrong read after the fact.

    2) He's not a YAC guy, but I'll take a guy who knows how to find the sticks any day of the week.

    3) it's pretty obvious this signing was motivated by the way he jokered the AFC East, especially when he exposed Cromartie.

In short, I'm fairly comfortable with him as the Dolphins' 4th receiver.

10:15 of the clip- leave it to Miami to give a slow WR ten yards of cushion, in the process of course giving up an easy sideline completion with the DB nowhere close to preventing it.

I don't understand this signing either- we need speed, please add to Mike Wallace, not detract. I'd rather see Rishard Mathews out there over Gibson. If we wanted to stick with slow and sure handed why even bother with this, just keep Bess around. So many receivers I've seen in this next draft that I'd rather devote a roster spot to rather than Gibson. Not to be overly negative, but imo we've maxed out the overachiever/moderate talent level already with Hartline and Bess. I would rather have devoted that FA money to re-signing Jake Long or getting a quality CB.

Third in the league in terms of catches that went for a first down in ratio to how many catches he had. Eighty-four percent.

He runs excellent comeback routes. Understands spacing, leverage and his stem. He's better than some give him credit for.

I certainly hope that he is. Given the makeup of this team, the two things that I'd least like to see added are a slow WR or a DE/OLB who's not a good pass rusher. Gibson looks like he has quick feet, is heady, good on the sidelines and good hands but jeez, enough of the slow WRs, please. I've tried to rationalize a WRs lack of an ability to separate before with Ernest Wilford and Patrick Turner, and that proved to be foolish. This time Gibson will have to prove it imo, that he can separate consistently and get the job done. His lack of speed is just concerning, bottom line, and obviously a sore spot on this team.

There was a speed imbalance as per the WR squad that Wallace greatly helped to balance out- we saw the price to rolling with pedestrian receivers like Hartline and Bess. Imo we should have done more to correct the problem, not regress. I would take Tavon Austin over this guy in a heartbeat- as per roster space- and Patterson as well, even though I have reservations. I don't understand throwing FA money at a slow WR on this team- big opportunity cost, and I'd rather just stick with Bess, who is not a favorite of mine. That being said, he was signed for a reason, he does have ability and I understand that. I just hope that this wasn't an Ernest Wilford type mistake, time will tell.

Decent for a #4 wide receiver but the problem to me is signing him to a 3 year deal essentially means begging off the draft class of wide receivers, which is a mistake IMO.

He kind of is what he is. He's very slow. He's not very often open and when I watched the coaches tape I actually developed some more respect for Bradford because he managed to find Gibson on the occasions when he was open. Unbalanced stance at the line allows him to be jammed and covered in tight man more easily. Gives away some of his in-breaking routes. Very inconsistent at finishing plays on slants. No RAC whatsoever (ranks 102nd out of 106 receivers that took 25% of their team's snaps or better). He's a soft player that will go out of bounds or to the ground willingly. Kind of an "almost" guy when it comes to finishing the catch along the perimeter, securing the football and getting the toe-tap. Drops easy passes. Doesn't run routes with a proper sense of urgency and spends too much time and energy shucking and jiving to try and fake out the defenders. Practically useless on vertical routes, Detroit catch notwithstanding.

Showed issues with lack of awareness. Caught him several times being unaware of the clock or the situation he was in with respect to going out of bounds vs. keeping plays alive. Caught him not being ready for the snap when Bradford went into hurry-up mode in situations where the hurry-up was to be expected. Caught him not adjusting his route on a hot read off the blitz, even after acknowledging a call that Bradford made to him pre-snap. There were other miscommunications as well. Caught him several times not knowing where the 1st down marker was. There's a suggestion by the way he was used that the Rams didn't think they could put much on his plate mentally.

The bright side is he can make highlight reel catches at times, his best routes are SOME of the routes that are important to this offense and that Ryan Tannehill is best at throwing, and he's young so he could always improve.

Overall to me he's the NFL version of "just a guy'. In the NFL, "just a guy" can make plays and make highlight reel catches. If he couldn't, he wouldn't be "just a guy", he would be Legedu Naanee and he would be out of the league. If he weren't just 25 years old then I would say that he's kind of a development clogger...a guy you have on the depth chart that just takes chances away from younger guys with better potential. At 25 years old, Gibson himself could still be ascending. He showed some good signs. But it won't be long before he really is a development clog. You need to be trying to get better than that at that position. And he's not comparable with Davone Bess, IMO. Davone Bess is a better football player.

    What players?

We have Mike Wallace, Brian Hartline, Davone Bess and Brandon Gibson. The wide receiver position usually holds only 5 guys on the depth chart, and usually only 4 of them are active on game day. So what players are the RAC players? Mike Wallace can consistently get YAC because he's so fast, and Davone Bess is the very definition of "mediocre" with respect to RAC. We know Brian Hartline's weaknesses and now we have Brandon Gibson who has the same weaknesses (except worse). So which players are we going to get for RAC? Where do we have room for them? Specifically.

Well...to be honest....I think we are taking Tavon Austin. I think Davone Bess is going to be moved....thats my thoughts any way.

I see an offense with Wallace, Hartline, Gibson and Austin as a very good balance of explosion and solid move the chains kinda play.

And its just me, but I think the Gibson signing really reinforces us goin after Austin.

So the Dolphins just spent upwards of $100 million securing three players at the position and then they're going to use the 12 overall pick on it anyway?

I'm gonna go ahead and say "doubtful" to that. I think people are just wishful thinking.

Well...I think it gives them alot of flexibility. And..I do think they want a very high octane high scoring offense. Now...another player that could fit that bill...and could be taken in the 2nd round...is Stedman Bailey. Sure it may be wishful thinking...but, I think Austin is kind of a rare talent....in the Percy Harvin mold. I mean...really, all of this is conjecture right? We dont know the full extent of what Philbin envisions for this offense, so, you can make arguments either way. IMO...this signing points to Austin. But hey......I dont have nearly the football acumen as you...so in no way, am I saying your wrong. Just my opinion...
