The dude is a small tank, a brick sh#@ house...The player has a beautiful display of symetry and genetic's thru his build, all packed with serious fast twitch fibers..this player is explosive, and somebody is gonna get hurt by him, unintensionally of course......I love me some VD...
All true, but I'm still a Sean Smith fan, not to run down Vontae but Smith's talent means Qb's rarely try to throw the ball on some routes in his direction. That is a part of the reason why VD is targeted so often, not only does he draw the opponent's #1 Wr but Smith is so long that the Qb has to have alot of confidence in his accuracy to throw the ball in Smith's direction. That said..Smith should have had a pick six against Sanchez, Sean Smith doesn't finish plays and that is something the Dolphins will need heading forwards.
i hope we have this debate as to who's better for the next 10 years...smith could of ended the game right there and become an overnight star... Ive seen some really poor technique from sean that really just is downright bad, no other way to put it really, not sure how you can have all that talent and not be able to get yourself into position athletically to make a tackle. Lets hope the kid takes his great makeup and talent and works on it to become better then the nasty mother grabber playin opposite from him.
I had no idea that Smith and Davis were covering Dallas Clark. Nor that they allowed two defensive touchdowns against the Saints, in fact the defense actually played pretty well against New Orleans. They gave up a few deep passes to the Chargers, but in all honesty they couldnt have played them any better. Just perfect passes by Rivers, and it happens sometimes. Shut down the Bills. Smith and Davis themselves played well enough against the Jets both times around, and Randy Moss got most of his yards on that one long touchdown. You have to take into consideration that they have had little/poor safety help in the passing game. Both have played just about as well as you could ever have hoped for them to, especially as rookies. Lastly, yes they are still both rookies. Just like I'm still 19 even though it's been 7 months since my birthday. They are rookies until this calender year of the NFL season ends. There is more to getting better than just game experience. It's having a year or two in the weight room, learning the playbook in and out, working on technique in practice. It isnt all that easy, if it was every rookie would just explode on the scene.
First of all, they are still rookies. And trying to claim they aren't is just silly. Secondly, I don't really know what more you expect out of 2 rookies CB's. One of whom wasn't even in the starting line-up when the season starts. Also, I think Chad Henne needs to step his game up. His play so far this season is not acceptable coming from a 10-year veteran.
That is why he should be expected to step up in this last 6 games, he has been in the right neighborhood, now he has to go inside the house.. And I've seen some technique that has been really good, he teamed up with Gibril to keep Mushin from gaining two yards and a first down that would have sustained a drive in the Panthers game. Smith will never be the tackler Vontae is, however smith will be a better ballhawk imho.
I think Smith has hit the rookie wall earlier than Vontae, he has started more games than him afterall. Still, both will have their ups and downs the rest of the year but I am confident that they will be damn good in the next few years.
Oh yeah ComPadre, well, we'll see about that sir, you better stay protected, cause VD will infect you.....lol
Guys and Gals, I do appreciate, understand, and respect your opinions on Smith and Davis. Mine is a little different. I LOVE these two picks, and both are going to be the best we have ever had at CB. However, both are continuing to make dumb rookie mistakes, after having plenty of game and practice time where these problems should have been resolved. JMO. Consider them rookies if you will, and technically you are correct. I do not. They have had enough time and play to adjust and adapt to the NFL game. I am NOT looking for them to be instant Pro Bowlers, just add water. LOL I am looking for them to improve and progress, and I do not believe they have to the degree they should have. JMO Getting beat by great WR's and QB's is NOT my problem. Making dumb mistakes, and being out of position is. Again JMO We ALL agree that both will be special. We appear to disagree on how far along they both should be. Here's hoping they both read this thread, and both have int's and no mistakes today to shut me up. LOL
Excitement and disappointment are all based on your expectations. If you expected Smith and Davis to develop right away into seasoned veterans then you are disappointed. If you expected them to learn the game as they play and hoped for gradual improvement then you are probably excited. You can dwell on the positives or you can dwell on the negatives which will translate into either praising or critisizing their play. As bad as we have suffered in recent years with our secondary we could be seeing the final answer to our problems and I am definitely excited about that.
hey this is supposed to happen! he's just a rookie going against a hof'er! isn't that the line we use every week. this kid has been toasted every game. vontae that is. sean isn't much better and yet all we hear is praise for these 2. amazing.. watch a game they suck... they *might* be good someday but not this year..
ill be honest. vontae and smith had terrible games today. evans burned smith a few times and TO completely burned vontae (he pushed off a little bit) but it happens.....growing pains were gunna happen....hopefully they step up and do good things at home against NE next week
You are right TO is a HOF... did a HOF way of pushing off to catch his last TD, without drawing the flag...
