The Dolphins will be getting another body back on their defensive line. The team announced Thursday that defensive tackle Earl Mitchell has been activated from injured reserve. Mitchell injured his calf in the season opener and was placed on injured reserve a few days later, so this is the first week he’s eligible to come off the list. Mitchell’s return comes at a moment when the Dolphins are allowing the third-most rushing yards per game, so any assistance he can provide on that front would be welcomed. Jordan Phillips has been starting alongside Ndamukong Suh in the center of the Miami line this season. Mitchell is the second veteran to return to active duty on the Dolphins defense this week. Cornerback Chris Culliver was activated from the PUP list, although it’s unclear if he’ll be in the lineup against the Chargers on Sunday.
Mitchell has been up and down since he's been here. Hopefully, he's rested after not playing the first half of the season and can team with Suh and Phillips to shore up our run defense. We need it this week against a SD team that runs very well, but is missing just about all of their receivers.
