I think Free Agency is a perfectly fine way to fill out some positions at certain times, you just have to grab the mid level guys and plug them in. Install your own playmakers and QB via draft. Those are the most expensive (and near impossible) to keep as free agents.

As long as you don't go for the big names. Pursuing the top CB almost always ends up a waste of money for very little impact, but the mid-level CBs are usually more reliable than drafting one.
