I am excited to watch him this year. I really wanted Tavon Austin this year, and he seems to have a similar game and SPEED, WOW IS HE FAST. He is up there on my wish list right now. I'd love to get him late first or in the second if possible. http://espn.go.com/college-football/player/_/id/482107/dri-archer
Archer has a lot of Tavon's natural ability but doesn't have his hands, route running prowess, or naturalness & understanding of the game as a receiver. At this point he's more of an athlete playing football. So with that in mind I'm not sure he's a top 90 pick.
Do.Not.Want. Kent read, Kent write, Kent state. Spoiler I'd probably be ok with him actually, just hard to root for a Golden Flash.
Archer may be a better athlete than Austin, but one of the things that made Austin attractive was his personality. By most accounts Austin was a hard worker. You could see that he had put in some time on his route running. I can't tell any of that about Archer from the highlight reel. I know Archer had some academic issue earlier so that's a red flag, but I've also read that he's a pretty humble guy who used that time to put in the work on the scout team. My guess though is that he's only seen limited time at WR so far. I'm also not sure of his build. Austin was stocky despite his small small stature. That bodes well in terms of durability at the next level. Archer did miss a couple of big games late with a knee injury. I do think that's the kind of player we'll target after our interest in Austin this year.
I think Archer is more of the Dexter McCluster mold in the sense that he's explosive but unrefined in the passing game, and his hands don't seem reliable from what I've seen, so I'm not convinced he'll break out of being more than just a player you have to scheme up ways to get the ball to. Hopefully he proves me wrong this year.
