we drafted a QB last year that was considered 1st round talent, he started 3 games....if you can accurately evaluate after 3 games and say hes not worth keeping then you must be the next mel kiper. If you coudl do that after just 3 games the Colts would have cut Peyton Manning b/c he just plane sucked his rookie season. How can you evaluate any QB behind a mediocre offensive line...a team who traded away there #1 WR, so he was playing with Marty Booker who isnt spectacular, Ginn a rookie whos primary position wen drafted wasnt even WR, and Derek Hagan who cant catch a cold, let alone David Martin as your TE....and aside from the lack or WR talent you then look at he was not playing with our best offensive weapon Ronnie Brown who takes pressure off the QB b/c the defense has to respect the run, and the loss of RB effected playaction and the screens that ronnie was so good at. It is abowt what is around him and if he feels comfortable, if you put john beck on the Colts he wouldnt be half as good as Peyton thats not what im trying to say at all but he would have chances to win games when he has protection from one of the primer OLines in the game, a pro bowl back in Addai, not to mention 2 all pro WR and an all pro TE. SO before everyone starts jumping the gun to draft a QB just look at what Beck had at his disposal to work with....not much....Drafting Ryan, Brennan, Brohm who know they may turn out to be great but for Miami it will just set us back another year having to train and groom another rookie QB and if you put him in the same situation it is now they wil have the same results Beck did. Beck needs to be named a starter for next season and gain the confidence enough of thi guessing whos gonna start week 1 of every season

What will you guarantee. Living in New York I know how Parcells thinks and what he looks for and I can just about guarantee that Beck isnt his type of QB. If I'm right on how Parcells is going to feel about Beck I can equally guarantee that we will draft a QB in the first four rounds. Parcells may love defense more than he loves QBs but he's not stupid. If he doesnt feel this team has one we're drafting one and we're not going to put it off until the 5th round

    all i can say is . . . if there is a STUD QB in this draft . . . u take him . . . . I don't think there is one . . . so u pass.

If u know the second comming of Peyton Manning is here, u draft him . . . keep Beck and a vet . . . . this is not the case, and we just invested a high pick on Beck, so we need to go in another direction.

Draft day you'll see. We all know how he thinks having coached 2 division rivals.

Where Beck was picked will have no bearing on our next draft imo.

I think u are wrong . . . if Beck was some 2nd day project . . . I think there is a very good possibility we draft a QB early . . . . being Beck was drafted in the 2nd round last year and was taken over the likes of Brady Quinn . . . this organization is NOT gonna admit failure so early . . . . Parcells or not . . . . now if Cam is gone, as well as the key parts of his staff . . . then maybe . . . MAYBE they draft a QB early . . . but to say where Beck was drafted last year has no bearing on our draft, IMO, is very incorrect.

If it wasnt Parcells we were talking about I could agree but he makes the decisions now, not Wayne. He could draft a QB in the 1st and 2nd and 3rd rounds if he felt that was what was needed. Obviously he wont but Parcells has final say now and if Wayne interferes Parcells will split or retire again. Plus, with Parcells being brought on now, Wayne has already admitted he made a mistake with having just Mueller and Cameron. Even though I dont think he necessarily did, his hiring has played out that way with the media.

well drafting a QB in the first 4 rounds definitely wont fix the problems for next year. Give Beck a team to work with and determine if he is cut out to be an NFL QB next season. Give him some playing time, let him get in sequence with the offense and let him build some chemistry. Even if we drafted a QB it almost guaranteed that he will be behind Beck in progress. And by drafting a QB all your going to do is cause a QB controversy once Beck plays one bad game.

But drafting a QB would give us three options later: let that person develop if Beck didnt turn out to be a good QB, trade him away if Beck does turn out to be a good player (what Cleavland might do with Quinn since they found Derek Anderson) or let that QB develop (if drafted in like the 4th round) until Beck retires since he is already 27 (even though that is very unlikely).

So I do see both sides but I think it is necessary to give Beck a chance at QB (its hard to judge someone after 3 games). Lets draft other positions and make this team better in general and expect Beck to play better with a better surrounding cast and more time in the league.

Thats fine . . . and yea if Parcells see's a guy he wants he will take him.

But even he HAS to consider what John Beck can be for this team and realize the potential of a second round pick just last year. Beck needs to be properly evalutated before u just throw that pick away . . . and I refuse to believe that we are gonna bring in another high pick on a QB (which nobody strikes me as being a FOR SURE thing) and have him in a similar situation as Beck. Yea if Peyton's twin was in this draft . . . we can draft him . . . but he isn't . . . and whoever u bring in, will be in worse shape than Beck, because they still need to learn the offense. There is too many holes on this team to just draft a QB high and give up on Beck . . . . there is no stud to justify that.

A lot depends on whether or not Cam is still coach next year and how Parcells feels about Beck. The odds are Beck will be given a chance to prove himself next year just based off Parcells comments about evaluating Beck. Parcells isnt dumb enough to take a QB in the first couple of rounds in the draft as that would be a huge mistake with the other issues on this team. I would guess he brings in a Vet QB to compete with Beck.

I agree, I see Parcells bringing a vet to start . . . over drafting one early . . . that is very possible.

But alot depends on Cam . . . w/ Cam . . . I think we keep Cleo, Beck, draft one LATE in the draft and sign a vet.

w/o Cam . . . I think we keep Beck, draft atleast 1 QB (who knows what round) and sign a vet (no Lemon)

Hey Parcells isnt going to do it on a whim. He;'s going to get film on Beck from college to preseason to the regular season to practice session film. The most important thing in determining whether he likes thwe guy is at some point he's going to talk to Beck. And then he's going to talk to his teammates. With Parcells that is going to be a psychological interview and if Beck fails that test he's going to be relegated to sitting on the bench for another year. Parcells may bring in a vet like Brunell or keep Green but he may also draft a QB like Flacco or Ryan. It really is going to come down to evaluating Beck for himself. If he sees the potential that Cameron and Mueller saw and likes the way Beck handles himself then Beck will be in good graces going into 2008. However if he doesnt see those leadership qualities that Parcells values above all else in the QB position in Beck then we will draft a QB that fits Parcells mold. Ryan, Brohm and Flacco seem to be the types he could like though with Brohm he may not be crazy about the injuries. All of those would require a high pick.

I'd rather see the OL get some upgrades, along with the DL and Secondary, and Beck given the 08 season to develop. The more help John has, the better team he has around him, the better he'll look/play at QB.

Until Beck has that chance, you don't know if he is answer at QB or not. On the other hand, if Bill wants a more vet QB...

Offer the Browns the #32 pick, in effect a first rounder, for Anderson. Yes, we've seen many picks thrown away on AJ Feely, Culpepper, and so forth. The thing is, in the NFL, you NEED a good QB. That alone solves many team issues.

At the end of the day, you either keep drafting guys, or you trade for one and either way hope for the best. You DO NOT stop looking until you have a good QB. If you end up with two guys, then you can trade one away, they are money in the bank.

Obviously the best case scenario for the team is for Beck to be our franchise Qb for the future. If he is then we are set and we can concentrate on bringing some youth to the defense and add to the oline/wr/te positions. However, if Parcells feels like Beck isn't anything more than backup material we are going to have to get another Qb whether its early in the draft or from another team, whatever. Bill Parcells can't build this team according to previous draft picks that other personel people made or bad trades we made, etc. We've spend a lot of draft picks trading for Qbs, etc. None of it has worked, but Bill P. can't worry about that. Hes a smart guy, his track record speaks for itself. He seems to have found a Qb everywhere he has been so if its Beck, great, if not he'll find one.

There is no downside to drafting a QB, unless the selected QB sucks. If the QB we draft can play, and Beck proves he can too, then we are in the position to make a decision.

There is HUGE downside to not drafting a QB if Beck cannot play. Look at SF. Good defense, good STs, good RB,,,,,but they don't have a QB so they are once again going to lose 10 games.

QB is the most important position on the team. You guys' opinions are jaded, IMO, because Wannstedt and Speilman and Saban and the present GM have failed to find a QB to lead this team.

I don't care if Beck can play or not. We still need to find another one. I am for drafting one, signing a FA, and trying like hell to develop Beck. Its that important.

I can equally guarantee that living in NY doesnt qualify you to say Beck isnt his type of QB. Parcells led teams have only one in his 13 drafts taken a qb with their first overall pick, and that was in NE where Parcells was given Drew Bledsoe by Grier. And taht pick was going to be a QB regardless because the only 2 players worthy of a top pick were both qb's, Bledsoe and Mirer.

Parcells-led teams have drafted defense in 9 of the 13 drafts hes participated in imo we will probably end up with Dorsey or Long unless we deal out of that first pick. Regardless though Beck is not much different then Simms or Pennington except in arm strength.

As important as any of these things, whether Beck has a long term future here will not only be determined by Parcells but by the HC he hires and the offense he wants to put in.

If we do take a Qb, youre right, it probably wont be in the fifth round, but I can assure you it wont be with our first pick either, especially if we stay at #1 overall since there is no Qb worth taking there. Additionally Parcells has in the past stated he hates taking QB's in the top five because of the massive financial investment and RB's in the top five because of the short shelf life of the position. So that pretty much eliminates 2 positions. Its Defense, a trade down or possibly a LT.
