#12 Cordarrelle Patterson It's a WR once again for Miami, but for the first time since the early fall it's not Cal's Keenan Allen. Instead, former Volunteers wideout Patterson gets the call. Regardless of the prospect, one thing is painfully clear: the Dolphins need a lot of help on the offensive side of the ball, especially at the skill positions. For perhaps the first time since the late 90's the QB position may be filled for the long run. Unfortunately for Tannehill many of his "weapons" (if you can call them that) from 2012 may be gone. Miami Free Agents include WR Hartline, RB Bush, and TE Fasano. Hartline is a serviceable player that lacks playmaking ability; simply put, he's - at best - a #2 WR. Even if he is re-signed the Dolphins' front office should be considering adding a top-tier WR prospect. That's where Allen, Hunter, or, in this scenario, Patterson, come into play. In his only season at UT (JUCO transfer) he made 46 catches for 778 yards with 5 TDs but was a star as a return man. He's more raw when compared with Allen but has a higher ceiling. 2. Actually really like this draft though I'm still not completely sold on Patterson just yet. Since Boomer mentioned Escobar and I checked him out, I've been a huge fan. Good sleeper prospect, pretty athletic, and great hands. I also like McFadden out of SDSU and would rather have him than Alford in the 3rd round, but it is doubtful that he falls that far.
I wouldn't have a problem with this as long as we've signed someone like Jennings. He would be an upgrade over Hartline, and then ideally you would have Patterson/Bess manning the #2 and slot role.
This draft is chock full of solid receivers. Our biggest need is WR. Patterson may have the highest ceiling, but he also has the highest bust factor. You almost have to off set the risk of Patterson with another WR.
Yeah, I'd like to see them draft 2 WRs at least. In that mock the 5th rd pick could be used on Marquise Goodwin and Marquess Wilson isn't drafted until the bottom of the 6th rd- maybe trade the 2 7ths to get him. Bummer we don't have a 6th, in that mock corny Washington is available at the bottom of the round. In the 4th rd I don't even know who Jawan Jamison is, but we're passing on M. Wilson, Menelick Watson, Devin Taylor, Ryan Swope, Xavier Nixon, Gerald Hodges and Jonathan Franklin. All in good fun, it's just another mock draft.
A late round WR that no one is talking about is Josh Boyce out of TCU. Would be a great pickup in the 5th.
Not great, not disastrous. That's about what I think of that haul. 6.5/10 About where Jeff Ireland has lived.
While it wouldn't be my choice, I can easily see Patterson or Allen being the pick at #12. I did like the Okafor and Escobar selections.
Lane Johnson all the way down at 32 overall isn't happening. Won't even come close to happening. I like Alex Okafor, and have liked him a lot more than most other people for a while. But it would be a shame to take him over Tank Carridine. Stedman Bailey at #72 overall. Hah. I remember on New Years Day when they had the Dolphins passing on Stedman Bailey with their 5th round pick, Bailey going like late-5th. Ridiculous. He's steadily moved up for them I see.
