I have always loved the NFL Draft and believe this is the best way to build a quality team. Thats why it is so hard to be a Miami Dolphins fan. Have been since I was a kid and will stick with them through thick and thin. But........C'mon Man!!!!! When are we going to hit a home run with the draft????!!! I thought the 2013 draft was a perfect opportunity with the 12th pick, 2 2nds, 2 3rds, and 3 7th round picks. The season is half over and lets quickly recap our draft: 3rd overall pick Dion Jordan has 1 sack. Second rounder Jamar Taylor has struggled with injuries, been inactive, and when he has played has looked overwhelmed at times. Third rounder Dallas Thomas is inactive each week and hasnt played on a line that has serious issues. Our other 3rd rounder, Will Davis, is still a work in progress and has been injured and inactive much of the season. Jelani Jenkins has promise as a 4th rounder and Dion Sims has had a couple moments. Sturgis looks like a keeper as a kicker. Gillislee is inactive every week. Is Don Jones hurt??? Not much production at all. Here is what we could have had by staying put (aside from one small trade) 1) Tyler Eifert TE Notre Dame (even behind Gresham has made plays...would be a great weapon for us) 2) Jonthan Banks CB Miss. St. (plays a lot) 2) Robert Alford CB SE Lou (starter) 3)Keenan Allen WR Cal (taken one spot above us. Could we have traded two 7ths for this/him?)...is having a great rookie season 3)Jordan Reed TE Florida (killing it with Wash) 4)Earl Watford OG JMU (starting OT David Bakhtiari was taken two spots before this) 5) Jordan Mills OT La Tech (starter with Bears) 5)Tourek Williams OLB/DE FIU (has better stats than D. Jordan) 7)Chris Jones DT BGSU (has been in rotation for NE as undrafted FA) Can you come up with a better alternative draft? WOW!!! What a haul. I do realize it sometimes takes eyars for a draft class to realize potential but the above would have been a building block for years and certainly more cap friendly than all the money we spent. Wallace seems to be a flop!!!!
Off the top of my head, without trading up the #3 and taking into consideration 2014 FAs and Ireland's desire to overhaul the LB corps: 1. Sheldon Richardson [revert back to a hybrid or 3-4 D] 2. Kiko Alonso 2. Eddie Lacy 3. Tyrann Mathieu [trade up] 3. Corey Lemonier [rush OLB] 4. David Bakhtiari, LT 6. Andre Ellington, RB [trade back] 6. Chris Jones, DT 7. Joseph Fauria, TE
