Complete with Dishonorable Mentions. Alan Faneca being one. Actually, the Jets cleaned up on this list. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/don_banks/01/07/all-disappointment-team/index.html
I thought Dorsey was the best player to come out last year, just not right for the fins. If I was GM, I might be as bad as Al Davis.
I abs. love the fact that 2 of the players on that list are players we were supposed to get over Long. Dorsey and Gholston had terrible rookie campaigns. Makes BP and crew look even smarter.
Nah i think everybody literally forgot about him. As for JT, no surprise he was on the list. I mean you dont get not put on after only coming up with 3.5 sacks after being a pro bowler last year. He'll play somewhere else next year and have a decent season (5-7 sacks, 45-55 tackles) and then he'll retire. Hopefully as a dolphin from a one day contract sort of thing.
The only thing about the JT thing is the same thing w Porter the yr prior, you put these guys out of position you expose them and their weaknesses.
JT suffered an unfortunate injury in the preseason (someone fell on his leg) and almost lost his leg in the season. If injuries cause a player to be on there, then fine.
A lot of people did. Even our own Boomer man missed on that one. I was a big Jake supporter from the beginning =D, so I didn't give Dorsey much thought.
This is the "disappointed" list, not necessarily a "bust" list. Dorsey still has a lot of opportunity to turn into a player.
yep. plus his knee just wasn't ready at camp and they made him play anyway. That or he decided he was going to, either way, not ready. I'm an LSU fan, i watched the kid play for years and I can say with confidence he's phenomenal. He's not a NT though, so i knew we weren't taking him, but if the Chiefs know anything about football, and continue to let him play, they will be happy with that pick eventually.
What Brett Farve doesn't even get an honorable mention ? Don't they know Farve worked very hard to lead all QB's in int's this year?
Its not the first time he did it either. The Jets knew this when they got him. He plays with his own mentality, so really, you can't be disappointed when you knew it was coming. ALTHOUGH, if there were a column for just "Most disappointing team" i think the jets would win.
Defensive linemen have the second toughest task making the transition to the NFL. Unfortunately for us, wide receivers have the toughest task. I think Dorsey will prove himself worth the pick if they stay with Herman Edwards. All bets are off if they bring someone in that wants to change what they do on defense.
I'm not surprised with Dorsey being there. I didn't think he would the force that he was in college his first year in the NFL.
Wasn't much of a Dorsey fan, but hey, at least it made my 1st round pick of Jake Long in the GM League look a helluva lot better.
That, plus they're putting him over on the left side. I think a lot of us saw how badly that was going to turn out. You can't have a lanky 235-pound guy with his hand on he ground playing the strong side. You're playing him out of position and it was going to wear him down. Obviously the injury was unforeseeable and unfortunate. I think they're giving it a pass for being 39, sitting out the offseason and already having that reputation as a guy that does his own thing. Really, 2007 was somewhat of an apparition for his late career. 2005: 20 TD, 29 INT 2006: 18 TD, 18 INT 2007: 28 TD, 15 INT 2008: 22 TD, 22 INT So I guess you could say he came back down to late-career earth. The competition was coming off a Pro Bowl (Anderson) and contemplated suicide (Young). Derek Anderson, man that guy fell. I really thought he was gonna build off last season, he was so good. I was all about the rumor last year about the three-way for him and our #1 pick. I really thought he was gonna become a franchise QB.
One factor seems to be in common with many on that list. They were just signed to a big fat contract. Carey and Crowder are due for a big contact .Food for thought
Read an artcicle today that says the Jest are expected to be $10 million over the cap this year. To go that "all in" and not make the playoffs had to be disappointing. But it's ok. I read on TheGangGreen that some of the fans expect them to sign 4-5 big name free agents.
Let's see. Miami ~$20 million under the cap. Jest ~$10 million over the cap Miami--has solid quarterback and possible QBOTF Jest--has 40 year old QB that is making $13 million, played poorly and might retire and not much in the cabinet. Miami--solid front office (finally) and solid coaching staff in place. Jest--just fired HC and GM that isn't so solid Miami--drafted very good LT in first round of last draft Jest--drafted a workout warrior that wasunimpressive to say the least. I think I'll take our situation, thanks! I kinda like where we are.
You beat me to it, I was thinking the same thing... really unfair for a rookie to even be considered a disappointment after just one year. That's not to say Gholston isn't a bust...
With all the hype that came along with him, I'm surprised Brett Favre wasnt on the list. I mean, he was supposed to be the second coming of JC himself. He got the key to the city, rang the opening bell at the Stock Exchange, and was even given a tree that was named after him! There was all this talk of Super Bowl, when he arrived. And look what happened. He'd be #1 on my list. But maybe thats just me!
I remember TGG having a poll about whether Brett should be inducted into the Ring of Honor if he takes the Jest to the Super Bowl this year. It was almost like it was a foregone conclusion. I think most Jest fans would put him on thier All Disappointment Team (except the ones that think he is leading them to the Super Bowl next year after they pick up Chris Canty, Karlos Dansby and Nnamdi Asomugha).
