You mean like 2nd string Packer players (me and my buddy had to entertain a while back during the superbowl) talking about how they smoke weed all year and how they beat the drug tests? And then asking us to get them some? Yeah they talk a lot.
He does open the field some. But you know what? You can get that. And not too expensively either. I've just been watching a lot of Jets coaches tape, because that's the type of thing I do in my spare time and yes I realize that means I'm the biggest NFL dork ever...and I'm just watching what Clyde Gates and Stephen Hill do to a defense. Gates is a little bit more questionable because he still has that problem of trying to run so far around corners on the vertical that he leaves absolutely zero cushion on the sidelines. But Stephen Hill, whom many already (mistakenly, IMO) consider a bust in the mid-2nd round? I'll let these speak for themselves... You didn't have to pay $12 million a year for that. The defense is just naturally scared of it. So if I want a guy that just provides spacing underneath the vertical, I can get that. If you're paying 10% of your TOTAL salary cap for a guy, you need him to produce, IMO.
To be honest, athletes are already answering that question. On radio row prior to the Super Bowl, Greg Jennings told a BBC radio correspondent that he's already been in touch with a bunch of teams. It's a worst kept secret. The NFL doesn't even seem inclined to enforce it.
For whatever reason, Emmanuel Sanders name is coming to mind just think he is more Ireland's "speed', low $$, high upside, mostly proven
I wouldn't pay anything north of 8 for Wallace but imo Desean Jackson is a better example than either of those two. He might be worth more in terms of putting asses in the stands, jersey sales etc but on the field? Nah. For 12 million I want a Megatron-Fitz type who can go anywhere, catch anything, block like a lineman, the whole 9. Wallace is a damn good receiver but he's not on those guys' level.
You might very well post something valuable on Heatfreak or the Lounge's Health & Fitness forum, but I'm only going by what I've seen. I've never heard someone talk about knowing so many things and being unwilling or unable to demonstrate any of it. It's basically like for those of us who were children in the 80's having that one classmate who constantly claimed he had an uncle who worked at Nintendo. I'm not saying you're an awful guy or anything, and don't want to make this personal. Hell you might be a great guy to talk about coleslaw with and are very nice to your mother. I at least can say with no compunctions that you are excellent at self-promotion, so there's that.
Reaching for a WR when there are better players available is playing with fire also. If Long walks, we use his $$$ on Spencer, grab an OT at 12 and take WRs in rounds 2 and 3 would you be ok with that?
I don't get it man, Sec has never given me that impression..the man has a job connected in sports and media, I respect that about him...we all have our quirks, don't mind that at all.
My speculative guess is that the top target will be Cliff Avril. We'll see if that agrees with the connected guys in several days.
The last guy involved in the non-print media in this town who broke any inside story of significance on the Dolphins might have very well been Hank Goldberg, and that probably wasn't within the last couple of years before he went off the air. Saying he knows something because he works on an AM sports radio station is like suggesting someone isn't a child molester because they work with children.
Philbin doesn't want a clear number one WR . So he said. Also. No one in this thread has any idea what they are talking about. Only rumor I believe in is the part where Section talked about coleslaw going good with BBQ.
Based on not much of anything and certainly not based on any amount of confirmation, I believe Richard was referring to Michael Johnson. And I approve.
LOL, the old man, me, ain't adding straw to his coleslaw shakes. Keep it up though, and you will be a prime candidate for a high colonic soon
Marvin Lewis said either yesterday or today that there is "not much traction" in re-signing him. That would jive with the assessment that more information would be had in the coming days as Con and Section alluded to. Shoot, I tabbed this guy in the Free Agency thread; that'd be something if it really worked out. I still think he will end up getting tagged, but that'd be a really nice compliment to Cameron Wake.
Then you are either blind, stupid, or intentionally ignore the many posts of mine in The Club, Other Sports and in here, breaking actual news. Hank Goldberg? LOFL. Who are you kidding? BTW.....so what's your theory on Mike Wallace? I am using an imposter for the show on Saturday? Afterall..I was delusional saying that I would ask him personally about the Dolphins. As for your "observations", I made myself clear about you. I don't like you. I consider you a jealous, worthless, know it all that has severe insecurity issues. You refuse to be wrong, and for somebody with your track record, that is a horrible thing to do.
If Ray Edwards got $5.5 million a year in Atlanta back in 2011, coming off two seasons where he had 22 sacks (PFF), 32 hits and 95 pressures...then I don't see how Michael Johnson asks $10 million a year coming off two seasons with 20 sacks, 14 hits and 49 pressures. There's no way the Dolphins would offer him more than they give Cam Wake...which is about $8.0 million a year if you don't count the year he still had remaining on his old contract (2012). If they're thinking about signing a DE, that's their cap. They're not offering more than they did for Cam Wake unless it's undeniably a better player than Cam Wake, and as there are very, very, very, VERY few of those in the league right now, none of them free agents...that's not happening.
For the record D-pate..what do you do for a living? You know everything. I am just curious as hell, what field needs a man with your vast knowledge in damn near everything.
I seem to remember reading something to that effect. But it's not really news. I also would like 10M per. My only concern is that the Bengals have the most cap room (55M). It will be difficult to outbid them. Wonderful spot to be in. Playoffs two years in a row and a monstrous amount of cap space.
According to Marvin Lewis' "not much traction" quote from the past few days, I think they'll have to tag him if they want to retain him.
Dolphins are not paying any DE from another team more than they pay Cameron Wake. They pay Wake about $8.0 million per year if you don't count the final year of his last contract. Ray Edwards got $5.5 million per year from the Atlanta Falcons and at the time he was coming off two relatively consistent years where he had like 22 sacks, 34 hits and 95 pressures. Aside from the 20 sacks, Michael Johnson has almost literally half that over the last two years. I imagine they would offer Johnson $6 million a year, maybe $7 million a year tops.
I'm gonna stay out of this now, obviously you have some issues with Sec that I don't, I'm just confused as to what it is that bothers you so much to be so critical...maybe y'all have a history that I'm not aware of.
It depends on how badly you think they'd be reaching. Personally I don't think you're reaching very much with Patterson or Allen. Your board has to reflect need IMO and with a gaping hole at WR and a young QB I think you need to make sure you fill the position. I feel the most dangerous thing this franchise can do is trot Tannehill out there again next year without any weapons. You are seriously risking stunting his development. If that means reaching a little to ensure you get a good WR that can contribute early I think you have to. Really though, it's up to Ireland and company to not go into the draft with that big of a need, and that's why I think it's a pretty safe bet that they already will have a veteran, quality WR on the team already by draft day.
With the potential loss of SS to FA, people are underselling the possibility of Brent Grimes IMO. I'm not much of a college football guy but as far as I've been informed, this is a strong DE draft. Supposing we go Jennings at WR in FA, we could sign Grimes and go DE, DB in the first and second. Maybe even an Aqib Talib who won't cost nearly as much.
