He ran a 4.66 during his workouts in 2008, at 260 pds he sounds exactly like a SOLB.

He was a ST player in KC, but he injured his hamstring this year and sort of bounced around and didn't play this year.

I follow small school prospects and like him in 08, his problem is the jump from Gardner Webb to SOLB is a loooonnng one, if he can play ST better than E Walden he has good chance to stick just on his size and speed combination.

    Just like 2008...:hi5:

I have a feeling no one's job is safe this offseason save maybe Big Jake's.

It is freaking scary how little Armando actually knows about football. You would think after writing about this game for over a decade, he would pick up a book or do SOMETHING to learn. Yet he knows absolutely nothing about a century worth of development of defense. The article should have said "Dolphins sign Johnston" because almost everything said after that was incorrect.

I actually was hoping we might draft him in 2008. I know a few guys on here, maybe CK or boomer, had written stuff about him in their pre-draft threads.

Kudos to whoever was talking about him in 2008.

When Johnston ran that 4.66 in his pro day most people really liked him.

Aren't you guys concerned this is the same **** with just a different player??

We need fast OLB and ILB to make this defense. That was the most evident in the Pitt game with Akin Ayodele trying to cover Pitts tight end, Heath Miller on Pitts second drive that put them up 14-7.

Our defensive philosophy calls for a lot of pass coverage by our linebackers. The result after being able to outrun Ayodele was a 4 or 5 yard head start. The pass completion I believe was 38 yards.

Slow linebackers just prolong our misery:pity: Slow linebackers will make us a mediocre team for years to come. This is the most critical area for our overall improvement of our defense right now.

Cat is as fast as Cam Wake when he went through the Combine.

His ten yd split was the best at the combine, tied with Darren McFadden.

Johnston is alot of things but slow and unathletic is not one of them Bro.

He runs a 4.66. That's a freaking fast OLB, let along SOLB. And you do realize this guy is playing as an OLB, not an ILB, right?

    moses & anderson are keepers
roth had to go for whatever reason

I wouldn't be too quick to second guess the NewRegime
(especially concerning LB's) Parcells is the author of the 3/4
in the NFL today & is more knowledgable about its configuration
than anyone else. he knows LB's
& has the experience to pick & develop them

this is year two, in year three the 3/4 will be set
there will be changes made in the defense

    not to worry
    :omg:

4.66 isn't gonna get it when our defense requires him to cover a 4.3 receiver

we need help at OLB very badly, so i think we will take a shot at several OLBs this offseason, not to mention drafting one in rds 1/2.

we all know how critical OLB is to a Parcells defense.

OLB is a glut & well manned,
even w/ the possibility of moving JT or Porter

ILB & NT are the problems

wouldn't be a bad thing to shore up
the free-safety if one fell our way in the draft

however, we need to find the PlayMaker @ ILB

If we are putting an OLB on a 4.3 receiver, than speed at the OLB position is the least of our problems.
