From Hugo's boy http://www.realfootball365.com/articles/dolphins/13922 I'm really kind of indifferent to the JT thing at this point and I just get the feeling that Parcells & co. are not that interested in the idea. If he comes real cheap, I guess. Don't get me wrong, I loved JT while he was a Phin, but we've just gone in a different direction. We're finally doing things the right way. I'll trust Parcells & co's decision, but it just seems they're really trying to rid ourselves of the past, which has been a great thing so far. I'll trust their decision regardless.
I don't know, I think theyre interested in JT, but its just a matter of seeing what Wake brings to the table first. If wake can provide the pass rush that JT could, then we technically have no need for JT. It all comes back to that progress stopper thing... and it makes sense in a way. Lets see what Wake has first... if he's not going to cut it just yet, then bring in JT
I do think that when Bill Parcells says he "went over Taylor's 2008 season and determined that he belongs in the NFL even if his play has fallen off" that that means that Jason should participate mostly as a pass rusher. I like the idea of having him at LOLB on 3rd downs as opposed to Matt Roth.
I think they're just doing their due diligence and saying the politically correct thing regarding JT. I think that statement by Parcells just says that he thinks JT can still be a good player and can still contribute as a player, but it says nothing nor does it give you any inkling that he wants him on the team. The only reason that makes it a possibility for us to sign JT is that we are really thin at that OLB/pass rushing position and that we decided not to seriously address that position in this draft. IMO.
i agree on the political aspect. i'd rather him not be here.i was a big jt fan but i don't like the fact that he doesn't want to go through tc(no i don't have proof but it doesn't take a swami) or his recent battles with injury's..besides what is wrong with porter mentoring the guy? i'd rather get our young guys as many reps as they can. i realize jt would be a situational player on certain downs but we have guys that can do that who are younger and healthier. he should hook back up with zach in k.c.
I remember one of you had a thought, and the more I think about it the more I agree. The thought was, maybe there is a deal for Taylor already in place (in principle). I think the reason they aren't announcing it yet is that they don't want it to be a news story when Taylor doesn't attend OTAs. Maybe as soon as voluntary mini camps are over the signing is announced.
Just say no to JT. At this point I want to look foward not backwards. He's past his prime and while still might have something left, just isnt right for our team, IMO.
At least if their even considering they are outlining his would be role, so expectations are set before he would get here. I don't mind a few older players for mentorship and limited playing time and since we lost Vonnie, I think Jason could be that older player replacement for a year.
Just a couple random thoughts here. This is of course speculative, but I could see them having an understanding with JT that they want to see what Wake can do while, at the same time, allowing JT to skip the training regimen until some point in training camp. The staff saves face and JT gets to lounge. On the other hand, lets say the bring JT in and Wake is productive, but not a world beater. Is JT going to go around whining to his teammates, under his breath, when he sits on the bench while they develop Wake / whoever?
let's not forget that it is a win now mentality ... especially coming off a playoff appearance last year. IF JT makes our defense better, then sign him -- if not, then don't ... which seems to be the crux of the 'seeing' what they have in Wake means ... it might take 1/3 to 1/2 the season for Wake to make a mark -- if at all ... with a rookie CB, an aging NT, and mediocre ILBs .... we can only take on so much liability one thing is for sure ... this FO does not want to take a step back this year .... 'year 2 of the rebuild or not'
JT is a touchy subject politcally, so I don't put much weight behind what remarks Parcells offers up directly to the public. It could be Jasons very demeaner when addressing these guys that puts Parcells off. Holliday always had a very well spoken intellect, but despite his long playing career, remained absolutley humble throughout. Any hint, or underlying sense of individuality, or self importance gleaned from a prospects voice, may draw concern. Rookies with some attitude might still be potentially mouldable. Jason otoh, as personable, and still somewhat humble as he may be, is an individual product, that the game, experience etc. has ultimately created.
