So, what is your prediction for the Dolphins record this season? When you look at each individual game it's hard not to say they should win this one, and this one , and this one. Pretty soon you've predicted a nice season for them. :)

My prediction is 8 and 8, which would be a great improvement from last year. What is your prediction? Let us know at Contests.ThePhins.com. Plus, if you are right, you could win a prize.

Here is an updated record distribution (9-3-2008 8:00AM):

I'd say 9-7 or 10-6. Sounds pretty optimistic, huh? But I feel we've improved greatly in every area.

Offensively we have a solid, if unspectacular, QB who is accurate and can lead the offense. He doesn't have to WIN games. He just has to avoid mistakes. We haven't had that in a QB since Danny left. Pennington isn't superb by any means, but he's a solid QB who could possibly throw better than 20 TDs and push over 3000 yards if he stays healthy. (And Henne has proven to be a very solid QB already as a rookie) And then we have the two headed monster in RW and RB. Ricky Williams looks like a man on a mission and could realistically reach the pro bowl. And when RB gets healthy, he's another punishing runner. Our offense will eat up clock and keep the opposing offenses off the field. And we have big play potential with Ginn in the passing game and some big red zone targets.

Special teams are vastly improved. We should do much better in the field position battle which, along with turnovers, and the inability of our defense to get off the field on third down, killed us. Our kicker (Carpenter) looked great in the preseason. Hopefully that was not an aberration. And everyone knows Ginn can take one to the house at any given moment on punts and kick off returns.

Defensively, we are more physical and much bigger. And our secondary has been a bright spot. We had 14 sacks in the preseason (if I remember correctly) and they were spread out amongst a very solid group. We'll be more physical up front and be able to pressure the QB from the middle as opposed to counting on only an outside rush. Our LBs are bigger and won't wear down as quickly.

Put all this together with the fact that we lost six games last year by only three points, we have a favorable schedule, a better nucleus of coaches, and the big brain at the top and we have a legit shot at surprising a lot of teams.

8-8 may seem more realistic when you throw in the fact that we are a very young team now and we'll make some mistakes. But this will be a disciplined team who will not beat themselves. When we lose it will be because we just aren't good enough to beat the opponent - not because we are poorly coached. I think we should at least split the division at 4-4. YES, I think we will beat New England once too. We should spank the Chiefs, Rams, and 49ers. That's 7 wins right there. I think we'll handle the Ravens as well. We match up well against them and they were, of course, the only team we beat last year. The Cardinals might be tough, but I think we go to there place and beat them and start the season 2-0. If we can pressure Warner, we'll be in good shape. We have the capability of keeping their offense off the field with our ball control game. We just have to match that with the ability to get our defense off the field on third downs.
If their is any truth to the Brady rumors, we should beat NE. Their back up QB situation is horrid. And even if Brady is in their at 60% that gives us a shot at an upset. The key to beating NE is obvious: Pressure Brady and make him cry. Though it seems to be a slim possibility, we COULD beat NE and go into the bye at 3-0. I'm not saying it will happen, but it's possible.

Now wouldn't that be a sweet taste after last years debacle?

IMO 10-6 is a bit much.

I said 7-9, but think we could easily end up 5-11 depending on how well some of the other teams put things together (AZ, STL)

Put me down for 6 wins.

I would have said 5 with JT and no Chad. Losing JT was a loss of 1 (4) but gaining Chad gives you +2 (6 total).

Ok I was the one who went 13-3. I know, there is no way that happens right? That just the optimist in me. But then again............ I honestly believe we can beat any team we play on the schedule, right now. The key is execution, intensity, and ball security. This is a much better coached team that should be in better physical shape then at anytime last year. With all the bad luck we had last year, we get all the good luck this year. Can't wait for this to play out!

Eternal Optimist. I thank God for the good things in my life. My wife, My Family, and the Miami Dolphins:up:

I'm not gonna predict a record...but I'd like to use this thread to say that I believe in this team, and that I think they could shock the world this year!

It's hard to predict a record - in a perfect world with no injuries they could win 10 games - but perfect worlds don't happen in football (OK, once in 1972) My conservative guess would be 5-7 wins.

If Pennington, Brown & Williams have superstar years and the 08 draft class make solid contributions I think double digit wins could happen, but I don't want to let myself get too hyped up over a team that I've not seen a regular season down on yet.

I may feel different after week 1 because there will be real game experience on the table for the new units.

I agree. The Jets will be 6-10.

I think we'll go 9-7, losing a tiebreaker to Denver for the #6 seed.

I picked 12-4. Because I'm an optimistic homer.

Realistically 8-8.
