I'm not sure. I think Sintim is the better all-around player but he he rarely flashes greatness. Maualuga does flash greatness. Safer pick vs. greater upside? Either way I have both of them below my top three. And yes, I did boo your pick in the mock draft. :tongue2:

I'd take either but I'm more of a safer pick guy, which is why I'm so big on Aaron Curry for Detroit.

A guy like Britt is the type of WR we need, IMO and is whom I want at 2a, though I have a feeling he will be gone by then. We need a go-up-and-get-it type of guy whom could be a good red-zone threat, as well as being a guy that Penny can chuck it up to and have confidence that our guy is going to be able to go up and get it, ala Fitz, Boldin, A. Johnson, etc. We have great slot, possession speedsters types in Bess, Ginn and Camarillo. Adding another WR like those guys wouldn't be the wise thing to do at that high of a pick, IMO. We need that bigger, dominant guy to compliment those other guys whom we already have. With the smaller, quicker slot guys, as a QB, you have to be so much more accurate. You have to hope your guy runs a great route and can get good separation in order to hit them, but having that one bigger guy would be great for Penny for when a play breaks down or no one can get open with that big separation, like I said before, he would be able to chuck up a few and have confidence that our guy is going to go up and get it. JMHO.

I know Rey's deficiencies make some people nervous, but there is no question in my mind that he is a clutch player, a better leader on the field, and helps elevate the intensity and play of those around him.

He has what Channing lacks in explosiveness, an ability to force turnovers through fumbles and INTs, as well as being able to get to the QB on occasion IF his scheme asks for it (his junior season was a good example of this).

Where Channing seems to read and react, Maualuga attacks. Where Channing reads the play and tries to make sure he isn't beat, Maualuga tries to blow plays up... destroy players. Channing could help remind Rey of his lane responsibilities and cover for him when he gets over-aggressive.

I think they'd make the perfect pair, as their skills complement one another well.

    Why do you prefer Sintim?

This is garbage. He's just trying bump up the value of the WRs in this class. He picks a team who obviously needs help at WR, and then says they definitely are going to take a WR. The Dolphins won't waste their time refuting this. Now Rosenhaus has the attention of anyone picking after Miami and might being looking to move up to grab a WR, like Pitt did with Holmes. I bet Rosenhaus has a 2nd round prospect that he is trying to get bumped into round one.

The reason I take Clint Sintim is simple in my opinion, he's a safer pick. Maualuga has a lot of talent and potential but the thing is that Sintim could possibly play inside linebacker as well. There's versatility there with Sintim to go with the safer pick, the no worries about off-the-field issues and there is no worry about transitioning to a 3-4 defense because Sintim has played in it his whole collegiate career. Maualuga has played inside linebacker in a 3-4 at USC - they play a hybrid 3-4/4-3 - but when I watched him in it, I often saw him over-pursuing when playing the run. For me the thing that stands out is the safe pick. Sintim isn't going to 'wow' you like Maualuga may but Sintim won't hit the wrong gaps and he doesn't struggle in coverage (at times like Maualuga does). Also, I would have no issues passing up Rey Maualuga to select Clint Sintim and come back with Frantz Joseph in the fifth round. However, I will say that this can go both ways. You could say that you would take Rey Maualuga in the first round and come back with Connor Barwin or Lawrence Sidbury. Its strictly about what type and which player you prefer.

I really can't see logic why they wouldn't take Curry. I think ideal for Detroit would be to trade out and get a few guys in there, but if that can't be worked out Curry makes the most sense to me for who they should take.

I originally thought the LT but then his no show at the combine was a real head scratcher, i could see risking a top 5 pick on him just for his sheer talent, but first overall money on a guy who pulls a move like that. Not gonna happen now.

Unless their really sold on a particular qb, Curry has to be their logical pick

Regarding the Left Tackle, your talking about Alabama's Andre Smith and I don't think he's a top five selection. Just my opinion.

I agree with you for the most part on Curry. He's the safest pick in this draft class and that's what Detroit needs, a safe pick. They've taken too many high risk, high reward players and they haven't come out with the reward. The reason you can't be 100% sold on Aaron Curry if your Detroit is because you still need offensive line help. They are planning on moving Jeff Backus to LG I believe and with that move, it leaves a hole at LT. There's really one LT that I see in this class that should be considered for the first overall selection and that's Baylor's Jason Smith. There are other talents here such as Eugene Monroe of Virginia but while he has improved his game on a yearly basis, he lacks a mean streak and I see a lack of awareness from him. He's still a raw player in my eyes. The next guy you have is Andre Smith of Alabama and he's a RT at the next level or a Pro Bowl RG. You have Michael Oher of Ole Miss whose very talented but his past brings up red flags and so you drop him down on your board a bit. The last OT that is probably going to be considered a first rounder is Arizona's Ebon Britton but its way to early at number one to go after him so that leaves you with Baylor's Jason Smith. Smith isn't flawless but he's got great potential because he has incredible feet, good jolt off the line and good athleticism at the second level.

Your only other options from Aaron Curry and Jason Smith is USC's Mark Sanchez and Georgia's Matthew Stafford. Sanchez is a one-year starter and those typically don't fair well at the next level. He also has issues with the deep ball, as I often find him being inaccurate downfield, so I knock Sanchez off the potential top pick. Matthew Stafford of Georgia has potential, has a good arm and has played in a pro style offense but has had consistency issues and decision making problems.

Now your left with Stafford, Jason Smith and Curry. You look at it and you think to yourself, I need to start with the trenches because why have a Quarterback when you can't block for him? That's where Jason Smith comes in and then you consider the talent pool at the Tackle position in this years class. You have Jamon Meredith, William Beatty, Ebon Britton, and many more that can play at the next level but how big is the dropoff from Jason Smith and the rest? That's where you second guess selecting Smith and Curry comes in the discussion once again. He's a safe pick, can play OLB or MLB/ILB in any scheme, has great knowledge and makes the right decisions.

In the end, it comes down to Detroit choosing potential over safe selection or safe selection over potential. Personally, while I love Jason Smith, I take Aaron Curry because I know what that organization has gone through and you need to take the safe road.
