I would have preferred to see Tua stay healthy for two years in a row before his big payday, but the Super Bowl window is open now and next year.

I’ve been saying I would sign that kid too, lots of folks don’t agree because of the lack of starts, but if you’re a GM and you were high on the kid coming out then it makes sense imo

for me personally it was Tua or love coming out, Tua by a sliver. I think love has shown what I projected at least so I’m sure his GM feels the same.
Don’t care who got paid what, happy that it feels like Tua did indeed to a team friendly deal with his percentage of cap out of the top 10 or right there

Bs, it was a projective move based on data for the past four years and the evaluation of college.
If you are the GM and you scouted and drafted him in the first round and you still have a job four years later, and you watched his every practice move, every reaction backing up Roger’s, on the field last year in a starting role, you sign the player to be your franchise Qb.
That’s your job, to evaluate and project your talent.

Paying him that much is crazy, but they think he’s the guy. I do tend to agree, but his play to me hasn’t been at a high level long enough. People will say he won a playoff game, but once again context matters. And if we’re going by wins he’s 9-9.

Yeah, Gutekunst and LaFleur have been watching him every practice since he was drafted. They see his potential and last year, they got to see that he wasn't a deer frozen in the headlights when the action started. It was one thing to make the trade that led to A-a-ron's butt being hurt. It was something else to let Rodgers go and give Love the keys to continue the QB run of great play that started with Brett Favre. They were in the same boat that we were in with Tua - you either pay the man or start over and hope for the best. And like Tua's deal, it might no seem good right now, but it's likely to be considered a bargain in two years.

The thing with Tua that excites TF out of me is that I don't think he's near his ceiling. He's getting better every season and I believe that will continue this year.
