The Miami Dolphins are renaming their home Landshark Stadium as part of a partnership with singer Jimmy Buffett.
The name change from Dolphin Stadium is the fifth since the stadium opened in 1987.
Landshark Stadium? Jimmy Buffett? I think I'm going to vomit.

wasted away again in landshark stadium.
waitin' for the fans to revolt
some people claim that the economy's to blame
but i know it's stephen ross's fault
ok so it's not very good but dammit it hits the point.

i HATE it.

1972 Miami Dolphins-The ONLY undefeated team in NFL history!!!

He had nothing to do with it!
this is the worst move the franchise has EVER made. seriously.
Why didn't they just name it Dolphins Stadium or leave it Joe Robbie Stadium. Their making it into a joke now as if we haven't been laughed at enough already. Haven't the Dolphins been laughed at enough with the 3 ring circus we had prior to Parcells arrival?
Oh, I know, its the almighty dollar as if Ross needs the extra income.
Welcome to Miami, Ross, you certainly made a statement with that move. What are they going to have now, a Logo on the front of the stadium with a shark with feet eating a Dolphin?
going to guess this will be the logo on the front of the stadium

the BEST part about all this, is that if we plan on keeping the stadium named after a beer, the NFL won't allow us to host the superbowl anymore. That would just be a GREAT way to increase our fan support, Ross, take away our superbowl!!! grrrr
luckily, the contract is supposedly only for a year, so the superbowl 2 years from now which we're planning on hosting shouldn't be affected, so long as we get a different sponsor by then

Well, it could be worse, maybe they will offer free beer giveaways?
And it's not like it's "Depends Undergarments Stadium"...
Seriously... can't we have a sponsorship with Jimmy Buffet without renaming our stadium?
hmm it would be worth it if they gave away free Landshark beer though.

So then, we're going to have this stadium name for a year and then another stadium name next year? As though that wont make them laugh at us even more.

Well as far as corporate schills go, at least this one has some personality. I'd rather the stadium be named after a beer than a bank.

yeah but now they're probably gonna re-tape our fight song with a jimmy buffet lame a$$ version, force all the security and concession stand people to wear these:

and you can almost garauntee there will be a Jimmy Buffet Buffet Meal for the low low price of 40 dollars consisting of all you can eat limes and salt shakers.
:pity:

I could see that too.
what does a shark have to do with a dolphin? this is a joke! why don't they name it one eyed, 3 legged, gay mountain climbing, duck billed platypus stadium?
That is as lame as lame can get. Landshark stadium? What a ****ing joke. :shifty:
Me thinks you all protest to much.....
First of all...Jimmy Buffett is an icon of Florida...Landshark stadium actually sounds pretty cool if you ask me. Rather have that than Fed Ex Field...or Safeco Field...
The Dolphins cant just rely on all of their current fans..they need to attract new fans to the stadium. They obviously need to add to the stadium environment, because we need to sell out as close as we can. The Miami Dolphins are a business...and we need to be succesful on the field, and on the books as a business. How this decision is the worst in franchise history...above hiring Cam Cameron, and Rick Speilman, and trading for AJ Feeley, and on..and on...is beyond me.
Traditional, harcore ironclad football environments work great in places like Green Bay, KC..etc. Our fan base is what it is....Id much rather have our business side of the organization understand the market they are trying to appeal, and bring new blood and money into the stadium.
Its also home to concerts, conventions, etc. where LandShark Stadium is a marketable name...
"The more difficult the victory, the greater the happiness in winning"
Pele
I have no problem with this...you guys need to seriously evaluate life and realize there are many more important issues than this
Seriously. Big deal. Does it affect Penne's ability to throw the ball, or ronnie's ability to run through tackles... if no, I can care less about any business discussion.
Further, if the owner is making money he is less likely to A) raise the price of tickets, B) get cheap with potential free agents.
Dolphins could call their stadium Doo-Doo Brown, for all I care. I just want to win some games.
I don't see the issue. Renaming the stadium is a marketing move that will bring more revenue to the team and more promotion....which hopefully leads to more fans, increased revenue and a better team. I think you guys are overreacting to a positive move.
I too would have liked it if they had named it "Marino and Shula are Gods and the Dolphins will crush the Patsies with futuristic death rays and superhero powers Stadium" but it ain't happening. The name of the stadium is really irrelevant to what we are trying to accomplish out on the field.

I love you Mom, you are the greatest woman that I've ever known.
Well, even if you don't dislike the name, you can scarcely say this isn't a big deal. As pennphinfan pointed out, if the Dolphins name their stadium after a beer they will not schedule the Super Bowl here in the future. And THAT is a big deal.
