lol players aren't going to say "Tannehill can't get it done when it matters, so let's just tank the season". Most QB's in the NFL can't "get it done when it matters" yet those teams aren't tanking. So there's no evidence of what you're describing.

And yes Tannehill is too good for tanking. By most statistical measures you're looking at an average QB, and as sample size increases even win% starts to reflect the ability of the QB, and he's average there too. There's simply no evidence we're going to have a max 4-win or so season – something that allows us to pick top 5 or so – with Tannehill at QB. If you want to tank, get rid of Tannehill.

If players don’t believe in their QB they won’t play up to their potential..believe what you want Cb.

My comment about tannehill was in jest..but there is truth to it, these players know he’s done..

Tannehill is 13-11 over his past two seasons with right at a 93 QBR for both years. He's also 42-46 for his entire career, with means he's pretty dependable to deliver an 8-8 season. Last season was his lowest yards per game AND his highest sack percentage of his entire career, even though his rating was tied for 2nd best. So in some ways he became more efficient (to do more with less), but his pocket presence was worse than ever before.

That could be RT's injuries adding up, the missing weapons/defenders on offense or simply a guy who's reached his max potential...any of the three could be true. But despite all that, everything points to Tannehill winning 7-9 games somewhere next season, or possibly more with a better line (or defense, whatever). The negativity you're projecting is just not seen league-wide.

Sorry key no disrespect but I’m not debating a below average QB anymore, there’s enough on tape to understand what he was and is..

Evaluations are done in isolation..

That's fine- and I didn't mean any disrespect either. I don't want him in Miami anymore either, but people saying he's always been horrible just bothers me.

Honestly, I think it's because what the world has become with the media and such...we don't get straight news anymore. It's always highly slanted with biased viewpoints and that drives me nuts.....it's not journalism. So I always try to see both sides of the story and form my own conclusions.

In fact, that's the only thing I tried to teach Travis a few years back- it's okay to be a fan in journalism, but be honest and show both sides so everyone has a takeaway. I think that's one reason he's so awesome these days- he paints full pictures and not just what's popular.

For me, I see an average quarterback with some clear upside and a few massive faults. We don't have to discuss that because everyone knows the conversation. I'd just like to see the guy get a fair shake on what he does well and have a chance to succeed somewhere else. I really wish that for any former Miami player though (besides maybe Landry) so that's nothing new.

One of the things that frustrates me the most about people in our society today is that so many are prone to label anyone who isn't "above average" as "terrible", "horrible", "awful", ect. Everything is on a sliding scale of shades of grey, and most people fall somewhere in the middle.

Exactly, that's what I meant as well. Either someone is the GOAT these days or they're a bum...there's no middle ground. That's how we're training the next generation to think. Life is not black and white.....there's a ton of grey area in everything....and people really miss out when they let society decide their opinions for them. I'm not aiming that at anyone in particular...that's just what the world does in general.

The smartphone era has vastly made our population dumber since there's no reason to think anymore. But I say to hell with that- be your own person and come to your own conclusions.

Let you tell it! Not only dumber, but people also seem more rude, inconsiderate, unappreciative, entitled, and offended by everything and everyone. While it's true, that those kinds of people have always been around. The sheer size of the internet/social media with open and easy access to just about any topic and/or anyone has to influence some users in a negative way. Why should kids listen to their parents when they have all these other people to learn from?

Maybe so, but at least most parents have their kids best interest in mind even if their kids don't want to hear it at the time. Can you say that about their so-called friends or someone they stumble across on the internet? In hindsight, probably not.

I think tannehill returns and we will draft a quarterback.

I also believe that once we find a quarterback to replace him, Tannehill will retire unless he finds a starter job paying starter money. I dont think he is looking to ride the bench. He seems very settled with Miami living.

If Tannehill were to do that, and just walk away at around age 30, starting as many games as he has for just one franchise, it would be almost unheard of in modern NFL history. Not saying that he won't, but it would be so rare that there isn't another example to look at for many decades.

Don Meridith was Dallas' primary starter throughout most of the 60s and walked away after his age 30 season.

Marc Bulger started a lot of games for the Rams, but was injured a lot, and those injuries forced him to walk away after his age 31 season.

No one is going to give us anything cause they know we're moving on. Also, one of the draft guys has Miami getting Kyler Murray at 13.

To me - it all comes back to the offensive line. If the O-line is good, the team is better. If they are not - in the words of my old coach "They ain't goin' nowhere!"

I don't want to appear to be defending Tannehill, I've done that enough over the years and now I'm done with it, but this from RevRick is the truth. If you don't have good line play the team is not going to play well. If those guys can't hold their pass blocks or open holes for a runningback you're in big trouble. The last time we had even competent line play was a couple years ago with what Omar liked to call the Unicorn line because they were never healthy long and it is no coincidence that we made the playoffs that year. It wasn't that Thill all of a sudden became great. It was because he wasn't getting sacked at an embarrassing 50+ rate per season.

My contention is that great line play can make even a sub standard Qb look good. A good line and a great Qb can win the Super Bowl.

Meh, could have said the same for Flacco and the Ravens, yet the Broncos made a trade.

Would be nice to get a 4th or 5th out of it.

THill will have a job if he wants it somewhere in the league - I mean, Blaine Fucking Gabbert is still getting starter minutes.

The 2009 and 2010 Jets would likely have won the Super Bowl if Mark Sanchez could have been half the QB Trent Dilfer was.

It's rumored Tannehill might end up at the Redskins. If so, I think he will do well because Jay Gruden is a heck of a coach. Gruden was a QB, and the Orlando Predators kicked ass when he was their coach. IMO, he is one of those guys who gets it and can help his QB's play at a higher level than they would elsewhere.

Oh, I think Tannehill will end up starting somewhere. I just don't think it's realistic to expect any team to give up much. I mean if they just wait we're probably cutting him.

Nfl network just had a piece on trading Ryan to New York Giants for Eli Manning and a day 2 pick.

Said that Miami is going to be looking for a pocket passer (New England mindset) to bring along a new young QB for a year or two during rebuild.

Not sure how I fee about that, he’s older for sure but we do have some good side receiever talent and a good TE if used.

Not sure what it would cost but if we don’t get one of the top 3 QB’s in the draft and we are clearly moving on from tannehill than maybe this makes sense?

Trading RT to the Giants for a mid round pick? Yes.

Trading for Eli? Hell no. What would be the logical point of that?

So their idea is that we trade Ryan Tannehill and receive Eli Manning and a day two pick?

If I was a Giants fan I'd be upset with that deal. I could understand a straight swap, they want to get younger at the quarterback position and are willing to take a risk on Tannehill; and for us, we acquire a veteran bridge quarterback while a young quarterback develops behind him. I could even go along with a pick swap somewhere in there, let's say a swap of second round picks, we get 37 and they get 48. But I don't see Tannehill having the value to get a quarterback like Eli Manning and a day two pick as well.

Would I take this deal if it was put on the table?

Yes. Eli Manning was the least of the Giants problems last season. In fact his stats are respectable: 4299 yards (4th highest of his career), 21 TDs, 11 INTs (2nd lowest in seasons he's started 16 games), 66 PCT (career high), and a 92.4 QB rating (4th highest of his career). The guy still has enough left in the tank for a season or two, and as a bridge quarterback he would be more than acceptable. We could even potentially compete for a wild card spot with a quarterback like Eli if he's backed up with a good defense. So for us it makes a lot of sense to do this deal and get a pick in return, but I don't see how this deal works out favourably for the Giants because Tannehill is not an upgrade or long term solution.
