Yeah, but Williams has never had 21 catches in a game. We don't want that kind of record-setting crap here.

Being a huge cuse fan i can tell you this guy makes you go crazy. He's awesome to watch on the field but incredibly frustrating to hear about off the field. He put up great numbers at his time at syracuse on teams that were terrible. He has great speed and just knows how to get open deep...exactly what the phins need. I have no doubt that if we picked him he would be seeing playing time immeidiately. However, he is a bonehead and doesn't make great decisions. He is at that point where things could go anyway with him and i dont know if he's worth the risk.

He has a similar build to Michael Irvin, and I believe ran a 4.37...here are some highlights:

We draft players over trading for them so you can teach them the system when they are cheap and mold them in to the player you want them to be. And the system has done reasonably well by parcells dating back to his time with George young and the nyg.

WTF Im starting to think this Front Office refuses to bring in a wideout like they are trying to prove to the world they can take piles of **** and make them gold mines and get all the credit instead of just buying a proven commodity for the most obvious offensive lacking position on the team!

Maybe because he doesn't have the off the field baggage like Marshall does.

Dez Bryant also has some character issues....would you rather use the 12th overall pick on a guy who could also become a head case, or maybe take a shot on a guy later on. Lots of guys mess up in college. Everyone said Vontae Davis had issues a couple years back. I just think if Williams did what he did with Greg Paulus (the Duke Point Guard) throwing it to him, he could have a lot of upside. I would not draft Williams in the first three rounds but I would from 4 onward.

Yeah they make no sense. They don't want a Stud at WR with some problems that stem from his late friends death Darrent Williams But they don't mind getting a guy like Mike Williams?

Hey I'm all for Mike Williams I think he can do big things as long as he doesn't pull the kinda **** he did at Syracuse.

He is a projected 5-6 rounder.

Seems like a possible gem but definitely has off-field problems...he quit the Syracuse football team in the fall

He'll most likely go in the 3rd. Marshall will cost the 12th pick in the draft. Huge difference.

Yea, don't get me wrong Williams is talented no doubt but he seems like an even bigger headcase than Marshall. It just doesn't make any sense to me. I mean it's one thing if they stick to their guns and keep the headcases off the team but they are total hypocrites at this point to say they don't wan't Marshall because he's a headcase then go out and start signing players like Incognito and having workouts with players like Williams.

The difference being that Marshall will cost you dearly out of the gate. Williams, if he did come here and his off field issues became a problem it's not that big of an original investment.

There's no way in contracts to protect against off field issues, so guys like marshall who are proven but apparently also have off field issues come with a significant investment up front. If they become useless and an off field distraction the loss is significant.

It makes perfect sense..spend a 6th rd pick on Mike Williams, if he is a screw up then we are out pick #207, spend the #12 on B Marshall and he is a screw up, then we are out the #12 and 25 million dollars or so...

Put it this way "they" are NOT going to invest heavily in a headcase player, they will take a chance on them, they are not going to spend money on them, or waste a high draft pick on them.

You have to gamble either way so which is more likely to pan out? A proven top 5 WR already playing in the league with off field issues that will help us immediately or a middle round draft prospect with no NFL experience that also has off field issues that will take another couple years to even start to help us as much as the former if that even ever happens and that's only if he doesn't decide to quit like he did at Syracuse?

That is not even the point though... I am just baffled by these guys dragging their feet and being total hypocrites with regards to getting us a WR. Seems like they are just making excuses not to sign Marshall or whomever out of arrogance rather than morals at this point and it is rather frustrating.

They'd make it alot easier to get behind them if they actually stuck to their guns instead of blowing smoke up our asses.

Pad, didn't we just sign Incognito ..... so we do sign 'headcases' ... different types of course, but a headcase, nonetheless .....

I for one am still all for trading down, once or even twice, then trading our 1st rd pick to DEN for Marshall ..... then taking a flyer on Easley with one of the added picks (4/5).

additionally, if we were 'good' with our current lot of WRs as Sparano stated, why then would we look at Williams ..... we are missing a big 'something' from this current lot.

as an aside, i am curious to see just how much Mullen pushes Bess .... since he seems to be quicker (a better atribute for what we are askin from them).

we can 'hope' for something out or Pruitt or Johnson, but much like Walden and Johnston at LB, 'hope' is not a plan ....

just write into Marshalls new contract, clauses regarding conduct detrimental to the team ... so you could DX him if required.

Incognito signed for less than a 3rd round pick would sign for, and if he is cut the damage is minimal...no draft pick, maybe 200k in a signing bonus.

As for RGM..keep in mind with CFLers, they have 2 yrs of practice squad time available to them, they make great insurance policies, if they happen to win a role, all the better.

RGM will have to make his bones returning kickoffs and punts to stick in Miami, barring an injury.

And in the NFL developing players is not "hope" it is a strategy..

Pad, agree on strategy .... however, to me strategy is low draft picks and signing UDFA as projects to replace current players in a 2-3 year period. That is sound.

We do take chances like that, and its good .... BUT, when your strategy is to 'hope' that one of these players can replace a below average player currently in a position need and help the team right now -- then it becomes flawed. exactly how many Miles Austins has Parcells developed in his career -- i'd venture to guess it is less than 5. Same with OLBs ..... 2 areas of great need and 1 a Parcells staple.

Safe pick= let's draft this guy instead and pray to god he develops into more than we already have a roster full of, meanwhile we still don't have a red zone threat

The premise is incorrect, Hartline and Greg C are not below average Wr, which is why they are probably not going to draft Dez Bryant.

One of those developmental players will have to prove they can top 16ypc or not drop a single pass during a preseason game to win playing time.

Williams would be a top twenty selection if not for his off the field issues. I would go so far as to put him right alongside dez Bryant in terms of pure talent with an edge to Bryant being more polished as a receiver

Agreed, he would be a low cost, high return pick because as a Wr, he has as much talent as the more regarded players like Benn and Tate.

Your talking as if they have drafted Mike Williams already. It's a visit. Teams are bringing in all kinds of people this time of year. Calling the FO hyporcrites and what not based off the fact they brought in a guy for a visit is ridiculous. They are just doing their due diligence on as many prospects as they can right now.

Except Marshall is going to cost 10 million a year plus 30 million guaranteed where Mike Williams would cost a tenth of that. Im not saying draft Mike Williams, Im just saying the price for Marshall isn't just the pick, its also the contract plus the fact he is probably one incident away from being suspended for a year.

Initially...grades...then cheating...then he got into a auto accident leaving a casino that HC Marrone had placed off limits to Syracuse players.

Imho no worse than a FSU player who participated in the cheating bank scandal, no drugs or theft of what have you.

This kid sounds like the classic quitter when things don't go his way; there's no valid reason aside from hope, to believe that Williams will turn over a new leaf or respond positively to the brand of tough love the Trifecta dispenses. As with Marshall, leopards rarely change their spots.

However, if he is that promising, I would take a 4th round flyer on him, but I dunno about any thing earlier. What's in his favor, as compared to Marshall's circumstances, is that he's coming into the league with a clean slate. It's a captivating dream picturing Henne and Marshall teaming up to break his single game reception record, but likewise, it could as easily be a nightmare if he turns out to be one more infraction away from an extended suspension and South Beach proved to be the catalyst.

He goes no higher than 5th IMO, unless Cincinnati has a say in this.

But he does have baggage off the field. He's talented but he's got the potential to be as equal to Marshall.

He quit because he got in a car accident IIRC and it was yet another issue in his Syracuse career. He tried to come back to the team but the coach did not allow him.

Really talented but he's so immature.

mario manningham didnt have close to the off field issues.....and he got drafted in the 3rd.

this guy is dropping big time imo. no earlier than the 4th. if we get him late......high reward/low risk.
