Here is a look at the Trifecta's top 10 offseason additions.

    1. Nose tackle Jason Ferguson - The 3-4 defense the Dolphins will likely implement doesn't work without this space-eating nose tackle. So Ferguson, who was acquired from Dallas for a fifth round pick and future considerations, is basically the linchpin of the entire defense, one that was the NFL's worst at stopping the run last season. For those who question his true value to this team try naming his backup. Thought so.

    2. Offensive tackle Jake Long - Whether the draft's No. 1 pick is ready or not, he's the Dolphins starting left tackle, and the highest paid offensive linemen in the NFL. This Michigan standout has got the size and strength needed to be a Pro Bowler. But does he have the footwork and technique required to neutralize the NFL's elite pass rushers?

    good read

I think if he is, it will be a big impact for us. Look at the tapes from 2007 we where horrible at stoping the run. I see a big improvement for us this year in that aspect.

I like that he has a nose for the ball even if it is an average of about one interception a year.

I agree with OFF about Ferguson.

I think Smiley and Murphy will be good additions as well as Yeremiah Bell. I know he was already on the team but if he is healthy, hes an addition because of his injuries. Same goes for Ronnie Brown and Ricky.

Very risky to pin all of our plans on a guy who is coming back at 33 yrs old, we need some NT depth.

It's not that Ferguson is impressive. It's that we were desperate for ANY decent NT and he is the only one we have.

As the articles said, "For those who question his true value to this team try naming his backup. Thought so."

Well... Soliai..... Starks, if desperate since he's more of a 3-4 DE apparently...... uh, those don;t make me feel any better than NOT knowing their names.

So, how would we run a 3-4 defense without a Nose Tackle?

Not the most TALENTED pick-up, but probably the piece we were most screwed without, so yay for Ferguson showing up.

I worry that his age will lead to injuries, though.

Is it really realistic to valuate these moves until we see them play ?? I think some of these points are very valid, but still, we haven't seen one of them play for the Fins yet ?? I have to reserve judgment for a while...maybe after a few minicamps or TC...
