It is a pity Wilford is so disappointing, if eveything is equal, it would not be the end of the world to give him a Training Camp to see if still wants to play in Miami. If we can cut him after Training Camp and suffer the same cap hit as if we cut him in April there would be little reason to cut him early.
i agree with this. the only problem i've got with cutting him is the cap hit and that chance to step up since we'd be taking the hit anyway
I know it is quite popular to overlook Wilford, but we have a fair amount of money tied up into him, if he shines in Training Camp, perhaps we could trade him for a late round draft pick, or maybe he beats out London? He was a decent Wr two years ago, but he had knee and ankle problems when we signed him in 08, some thought he would not pass the physical, maybe now he's healed?
that could be it. i didn't know he was playing with an injury (who isn't, though?) at very least you're right i think if anything gives him another chances it's the money we have tied up into him. as for the other ones for me: 10. resign carey. work out a deal. good RTs are hard to come by and he is versatile along the lines something this regime likes. 9. get younger through draft and FA. maybe keep one vet at each DB position for grooming purposes. 8. bye, crowder. 7. move satele to guard, sign/draft a center 6. sign a couple of decent up and comers 5. don't address it at this time (holliday) 4. give wilford another shot (due to $ alone) 3. i think they can and will add a #1 but if they were left with the in house receivers it would be brandon london as the #1 due to his size. 2. offense has holes all along the line, defense has holes all in the DB field. it's about even; with DB being more pressing IMO due to age. 1. this is a tough one. he knows our system but isn't getting any younger and we could use picks due to all the holes we have along the line and at DB/LB. even though the pick would be low it would be giving someone a shot. i say trade.
The one guy in the secondary who I'd not want to bring back is Randal Hill, I know YBell called him the Qb of the secondary, but he just is not physical enough for my tastes. Goodman, Allen and a draft pick for the #3 Cb would be an interesting group, but Goodman will want a 3 year deal to be sure, and that is too steep for him IMO. Samson played with a bum shoulder/torn labrum most of the season, that really roadblocked his drive blocking in 08, he is quite young and I would not be in favor of using a high draft pick to replace him, but we could use a player like Eric Woods who can legitimately play Center or Guard for us. Carey...maybe...not certain about him.
Just ran across this: I'd prefer Woods from Louisville as he can play guard and just looks like a better player then Unger to me.
