If you played DB for the mid 80s Bears, you gotta be a tough bad *** sonuvabitch.

Interesting sidenote on Fisher. He was also a punt returner, and in 1983 he broke his leg on a return when he was tackled by an Eagles LB named Bill Cowher.

16 full seasons, and 6 trips to the playoffs. His first season he took over after 10 games.

Im on the fence with this one, Fisher is a defense first guy, conservative offense. He also shows zero emotion on the sideline during games I never seen him go after someone or get pissed on the sideline. He is a winner and I would be intrigued if we picked him up but he is definitely not my first choice.

Wrong, the WANT to interview Fisher. They have not interviewed him. Rams are making a big push for him as well.

He is the only coach of note they WANT to talk to. Of those mentioned to be interviewed, all were assistants.

Until he actually interviews, it is a WANT.

He could interview with the Rams today and take the job on the spot. He will have still never interviewed with the team.

They want to interview him. Hopefully they will interview him. Hopefully they will offer him the job and hopefully he will accept.

Do you think the Phin Phans would be happy with another 10 years out of 16 without the playoffs?

That is why Fisher is the best choice. He is hungry the way Shula, Dungy, and Belichick were.

This is kind of a silly comment.

Fans don't "need to get over" there being a next generation great coach to find.
Of course one is out there. Probably many. Hard part is finding them. Does not mean they do not exist and that no one should search for them. If your post were true there will never be a great coach in the future ever again.

As for Fisher he may be another Bellichick type where he's learned from his mistakes, will grow and become an even better coach. Then again, it's just as possible as finding a young coach that will bomb that Fisher will bomb like many "retread" coaches have done before.
    They are all a risk.

I take your original point. I was not suggesting it is worthless to hire an inexperienced coach. Just arguing against the notion that since the last 3 SB coaches were 1st time coaches, the Phins MUST find the next McCarthy. Odds are you won't. Especially with Ross and Ireland in charge of the search. I'd rather have Jeff Fishers worst season in Tennessee than another Cam Cameron.

It's just been reported that Norv is staying put in San Diego, which is mind-boggling, but good for us. John Clayton said Fisher would either end up in St. Louis or San Diego. I know they have Bradford, but the Rams are a BAD football team. That leaves only one reason Fisher wouldn't want to come here. I'll give you a hint: His last name starts with an 'I' and he's a ****ing douche named Jeff Ireland.

I don't see how hiring Fisher automatically makes them a playoff team. No coach automatically makes a team playoff bound. The Rams just don't have many good players.

I'm guessing SD just wants to appease Rivers, which is also stupid.

lol The hate for Ireland is crazy.

For all the stupid **** Fisher let happen or didn't fix in TEN, I can't see Ireland being thrilled to work with him either.

    Don't disagree there.
I'm not a huge fan of Fisher but there were things he did well and there is something to be said of a coach with experience if he is willing to learn from it and become better. I mean you would have been hard pressed to find many that were really excited about Bellichick prior to his stint at the Patriots.

I'd really like Fisher. Ross better get the check book out and buy him a yacht and give him the hellicopter they came in on.

What's crazy about Ireland is that he's still here, while he's been the GM in place for a team that's had a losing record three straight years for the first time in team history. Oh, and there's that whole "Not getting a Franchise QB thing".

We wanted Wanny and Spielman out because 11-5 and 10-6 wasn't good enough, and yet this clown is still here. Laughable.

Oh yea, the only possible reason Fisher wouldn't want to come here is Ireland. It couldn't possibly be a multitude of other reasons. For all you or I know, Ireland may be a reason Fisher would want to be here.
