The negotiations have gotten uglier. On Mike and Mike this morning they were saying that it looks like this situation will not be resolved. I get the impression that VJ will sit out the whole season or at worst show up for week 10 then become a FA after the season. The question is whether at some point Smith and the Chargers just decide that it's better to get something rather than nothing.

Anyone else thinks this is like the situation back in the Air Coryell days?

I could see him sitting out. I could see him traded. I just don't see him being traded to Miami. Like I said way back in this thread, I've never seen a team acquire two top-tier WR's, in their prime, and give huge contracts to both after dealing high draft picks to get them.

Unless SD is willing to part with him for Randy Moss/Santonio Homles compensation, I just don't see it happening for the Dolphins.

As I said earlier in this thread. I could see SD letting him go for cheap and I could see the Dolphins agreeing to the trade. I'm just not sure I could see the Dolphins wanting to pay two WRs that much.

Vincent Jackson is an a-hole but pairing him with Brandon Marshall would just be borderline unfair.

How often do we see players sitting out. It is unheard of. I don't see Jackson being any different really. I think he will eventually be traded. We won't be involved.

Did you ever see a basketball team put together a team consisting of 3 of the top 10 players in basketball? You did this year.

This is Miami's time to shine. Marshall, Dansby, James, and Bosh in one off season. Why not add Jackson?

Wouldn't surprise me to see A.J. Smith part ways with this problem, particularly if it threatens to linger on thoughout the season. Nor would I expect to see him eat crow on this, purely out of fear to lose a player of his skill set.
Smith has a knack for finding talent, and I would speculate in his eyes, working to acquire that talent, might just be more productive seeking it with a 3rd round pick and change, rather than prying it from a disgruntled hold out.

While it seems out of character for this regime to make such a move, for such a player, at this particular time, if Ireland hears the right price, I think Brandon's surprisingly smooth, and unhindered transition thus far with the team, may allay concerns this regime would have otherwise had, and allow options once considered prohibitive.

That said, the odds of these planets aligning, including the astronomical plane relative to VJ's salary, remains slim to none, imho.
