http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/sfl-0221dolphins-rizzi,0,1560393.story NDIANAPOLIS - Rhode Island football coach Darren Rizzi has stepped down to become assistant special teams coach with the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins had an opening on special teams due to Steve Hoffman's departure to become the Chiefs special teams coordinator this week. Rizzi will reunite with Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano, whom he served under at the University of New Haven as special teams coordinator/ defensive line coach in 1994.
He also was the linebackers coach at Rutgers for three years I think and had them ranked top five in sacks and top ten in defense.
Eventual replacement for the inevitable Bowles departure? Either way, if he can get the ST playing a bit better I will be happy.
I was the sports editor of the URI newspaper last year and I interviewed Rizzi when he got hired. He was a really nice guy and when I mentioned that I was a Dolphins fan he told me that he was really good friends with Sparano. In college, Rizzi was a really awesome tight end for URI.
The Sparano Family grows a bit more, the only guy who did not have a long term relationship with HC Sparano was Mauser the Oline coach. I like the idea of ex Head Coaches coming to man the staff, they will have attention to details that matter.
Rhode Island football coach Rizzi steps down for Miami A little info. on one of our new assistants coaches. He probably has good info. on the guy I want with our 2a, WR, K. Britt. I know after the combine he'll most likely go higher. The only thing going for us that might give us a slight chance is that there are a lot of good WRs in the draft this year, so hopefully the other teams fall in love with some of the other prospects whom are out there. Who knows. http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/...ork&page=cfoot2/news/newstest.aspx?id=4214335
