    Oh, I could only imagine the flags.....

    But if a Patriot did that, expect ESPN to talk about how innovative the tackling technique is.

    Problem with that video is it doesn't show the translatable skills that Aikido offers, namely hand speed on a semi fixed target.

    In the Indonesian (pentjak silat) and Filipino arts and Shaolin arts and especially Wing Chung, the Mook Jong "dummy" is used, a sort of fixed target that the student uses their hands on with the idea being the fixed wooden post is a "arm" or "hand" moving towards the student, or at least presented to the student:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xxHGCSjejE&feature=related"]YouTube - Wing Chun Dummy - FAST![/ame]

    or this

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZz1XbfCAmE&feature=related"]YouTube - Wooden Dummy 1-5[/ame]

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53EvOvHeyHk&feature=related"]YouTube - Wing Chun Dummy Recoil Reaction Stand[/ame]

    Notice how they move their hands and forearms?

    That IMO, would translate to the NFL, the problem is, the footwork is totally different, those fellas pivot around the target, a OLB/DE has to move their hands one way, and move their feet completely differently.

    That is one of the difference between athletics and the martial arts.

    Our Head Varsity Coach is a black belt and he uses it on alot of his DL and LB drills. He's used it for years and alot of our DL / OL kids leave on a scholarship, so I think there's something to it.

    Why, JT can leap them in a single bound...:lol:

    That is one of the issues jd, the hands and forearms are moving to ward of the hands of the OT while they are running at a powerful sprint and angling away from the blocker all the while they have 2.4 seconds to reach the Qb.

    I watch the Wing Chung practicioners working with the mook jung dummies and watch how they move in an arc, left center right, right center left all the while their hands and forearms are warding off the theoritical "hands" and arms of the dummies and cannot help but think those skills would translate to the NFL.

    I think they should send the whole defense over to my house, I will give them some paint & brushes and they can build their up and down stroke strength. I will have them wax our two cars many times, wax on, wax off. Just what they need! Who do I get in touch with to offer my home and cars for their study? :lol:

    Allow me to clear up a few things; I'm the webmaster of stormskarate.com, the storms karate blog, and the in-renovation combatfootball.com, and also an instructor at Mike Storms Karate. The style off of which the training used in the curriculum developed for the dolphins was based is the Okinawan art, Isshin-ryu, or "Whole Heart Way", not Aikido. I only skimmed over this thread, so I could have missed a post where this was clarified, but I thought I might as well throw in my two cents too.

    I posted this in the other thread but I thought it would be applicable here as well.

    We had a visitor.
    That seems to be a very practical style to apply to football. I've never studied Isshin-ryu but I have studied Goju-ryu which I believe to be one of the roots that Isshin-ryu sprung from. It was considered by some to be a street fighting version of Goju.

    Isshin-ryu is known for it's vertical punches and natural stances. It's focused on close in fighting. That would seem very applicable to linemen and WRs.

    It goes back to Lawrence Taylor having been a martial artist, and crediting it with helping him with balance and leverage.

    That's where Bill gets the impetus.
