I dunno, to me it seems like Jake Long just digs himself into a deeper hole with each game. Fasano not exactly lighting anything up either.

Reggie Bush's history of health issues means that if you wait until the end of the year you should probably still be able to get a good deal out of him or just franchise him since the franchise tag is cheap.

Hartline I just don't get why you start negotiating with him the week after he takes the NFL lead for receiving yards. He's so off-and-on. He was huge in the Raiders game and huge in the Cardinals game but practically invisible in the Jets and Texans games. Wait until he goes invisible a few more times. Or just wait until the end of the year when he has like 1100 yards receiving but only like 3 touchdowns, and then you can get an Amani Toomer-like deal out of him.

They were negotiating with him prior to the season as well, IIRC.

They didn't just start contract negotiations with Hartline, either. They started in the off-season, but basically seemed to have stopped when Hartline got hurt.

Hartline needs to average just 78 per yards per game the rest of the way to break Mark Clayton's single-season franchise record of 1,389 yards.

Well prepare to watch that happen this week, and prepare to watch Davone Bess and Reggie Bush go off.

There's a reason this guy is being extended.

Yeah well, too bad few 3rd-round picks at all work out, and too bad the rate of acquiring starting players from even the first round is only 50%.

although, heaven forbid that a player who plays well might actually get rewarded with a new contract. And before anyone says, well he's not worth what the Dolphins are going to pay him... lets actually wait and see what the Dolphins pay him before going into convulsions.

No, Hartline was considered decent value in the 4th round. He was also known for a being a good special teams player. Bess was a good get.

Patrick Turner couldn't even produce at a school KNOWN for guys producing and then not doing anything in the NFL.

And I agree, hey listen if I had my way I would trade Bush and Long right now....

In the end however, if you do take Long, Bush, Hartline, and Fasano and dont replace them somehow Tannenhill might show up with a pitchfork to Irish's doorstep....

99% of the people here had no idea who Brian Hartline was. I recall in the draft chat people literally saying "who is this guy?"

I wouldn't trade Reggie Bush. He's won me over. Jake Long...I'm not ANXIOUS to lose one of the best left tackles in football but if the man wants to be paid 10% of our salary cap every year I just don't know that I can justify that.

With the football smarts on this board, I highly doubt thats true

Maybe 10% didn't know who he was. Hartline wasn't a no one in college.

The guy was on National TV every week for two years at a powerhouse of a program AND played in the National Championship game just a few months prior to the draft. Were they...just not college football fans?

Up until this year, Hartline has performed about as well as you can hope for a 4th round pick. Blown away? No.

If he were to sustain this output for the entire year? Yeah, I think then I'd have to say he's "blown away" those appraisals.

No argument on Bess. Guy's been a great player.

He was a WR on a team with Terrell Pryor at QB. There were a few people that knew of him, but the overwhelming majority didn't.

Brian Hartline is the best thing Chad Henne ever gave the Dolphins. He was the one that worked Hartline out and the Dolphins gave a high grade to Hartline in large part because Henne raved about him as the best receiver they had him work out.

Well it sure helps when you just blew away the SINGLE GAME franchise receiving record for sure.

That has no hope of being accurate. OSU is on every week, and you could not help but watch Hartline play.

When we drafted him, I was lukewarm on it, as he didn't really stand out too much in college.

i started a thread on who we thought shoud get credit for Hart and Bess.

I can only speak for myself, of course I'm judging the last two years of his tenure, two free agent periods, two drafts, two undrafted free agent periods, however, there can be some common sense applied as it pertains to different players acquired under both watches..

For example, common sense tells me Parcells was not initializing the Canadian pipeline and scouting Cam Wake.

Another, I would think that the new GM in training would be responsible for later round picks and undrafted free agents..gotta give him some bones ya know.

I may be incorrect here, but I do think Bess is approaching being one of the best undrafted receivers ever found, I know he had some stats early that suggested that, and I'm seeing a very good football player continuing to improve..

Another example, I'm not stupid enough to believe that Ireland was in charge of 100 million dollars in free agents, and the franchises #1 overall when Parcells was just hired to turn the 1 and 15 dolphins around.

Fair perspective JW, we can break it ALL down, every move we should study and apply variables to come to our conclusion.

Forget what exactly? LT's are overrated in today's NFL. You don't need a "franchise" LT anymore. Not sure if you ever did, but at least the hype has faded on the position. I would rather try and get some teams #1 and use it on a skill position. Move JM back to LT and find his RT replacement in FA/draft.

This is an interesting point for me..

I think we're going to find out a lot as to how much our players want to be Miami dolphins.
