Do you like Safety O.J. Atogwe? Get in line http://miamiherald.typepad.com/roll...atogwe-get-in-line-and-wait-until-june-1.html
im excited to see what reshad jones can do at the fs spot.he very well could be our day 1 starter and if not we have clemsons with a yr under his belt and culver who is better than what wilson was giving us. im not as worried about getting a atogwe or sharper for a yr as i was before the draft but we have until june 1st to make a decision on our current group.
There are very few proven ball-hawking free safeties, and OJ Atogwe is one of them. Looking at interception numbers for free safeties in the last 4 years, 4 names stand out: Ed Reed (24), OJ Atogwe (18), Darren Sharper (18), Nick Collins (16). But what makes OJ Atogwe special is that in that time frame, he also has an unbelievable 14 forced fumbles, while the other 3 guys barely have any. In 4 years, Atogwe has an incredible 18 interceptions and 14 forced fumbles. He's a wrecking machine, creating non-stop turnovers. A lot of teams are going to be bidding for Atogwe in free agency. If we want him, we're going to have to pay a ridiculous amount of money.
The bidding is going to get outrageous. He is literally going to be the only unrestricted free agent, and is just coming on the market AFTER the draft. He's getting PAID.
I think Jones is the heir apparent to Yeremiah Bell at SS. Bell is 32 years old and you never know when age will hit him. Considering Bell was the only SS on our roster before the draft, it makes no sense for Reshad to have come in as a SS. If Bell got injured or just flat out sucked, we would have had no SS. I think anyone who looks at Jones at anything other than SS isn't considering the lack of depth at SS which was an issue as well.
