*raises hand* Silver Lakes resident here. DTV is surprisingly weather-resistant. The trouble comes when the southern sky is layered in enough clouds to interfere with the signal, which honestly does not happen often. In casual rain storms, the signal still comes through fine. I'd say there's maybe 0.5% signal outage per month. If it happens, it's momentary. XXX, keep in mind that whatever packages Comcast offers, the prices increase after six months. Of course, they may be offering you an unadvertised deal. Just make sure the prices won't escalate down the line.
Yep Sport South I believe is a Comcast run channel, and as per Comcast being in competition with DirecTV they cut out all premium programming to DirecTV customers. We found this out during the past college baseball season, when the Hurricanes were on channel 629 and as soon as the game came on, the screen goes blank and says "you do not have permission to watch this channel". Nothing about calling to see if you can get it because its on Comcast channel and they block it on purpose. They only really have the channel on because that is where the Nationals & Orioles games are seen.
I would say we lose signal here in Westchester area of Miami for a few minutes just a couple of times a week. The storm has to be really bad for it to go out, and the really bad part of the storms only last a few minutes.
Believe it or not DTV was the worst customer service I had while calling around. Comcast was pretty knowledgeable. The DTV guy said he couldnt give me any package info without getting my home number, after telling him I dont have a home phone only a cell he stammered for a few minutes and then put me on hold. When he came back I explained I hadnt moved into my new residence yet and just wanted pricing options. He was again miffed. I hung up several minutes later after he wanted to tansfer me to a local representative.
directv is sick picture quality, great HD, but its very pricey... im not leaving directv though... i love it
When I have questions I usually contact them by email, you get better answers and sometimes almost as quick and your not stuck with a phone to your ear. http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/global/contentPageIF.jsp?assetId=P4560006
Update Wanna thank you guys again for the input. Turns out, Comcast is already installed and is included in the rent which I am just finding out. Im just going to upgrade to the HD pack with internet.
I got DTV about a year ago and i will never go back to cable. comcast is cheaper but i need my football. Plus a friend of mine also told me that they might get exclusive rights to the baseball package too but im not sure about that one
just now saw this thread.... dude, go cable. i've had DirectTV for YEARS and hate it. absolutely hate it. The ONLY reason i have it is so i can watch the phins on the sunday ticket... but being your local, you can watch it on regular tv.
