Was just going to say exactly the same thing. That is terrific but the Ireland original is still the best.

I don't mind the suspensions for illegal drug use. What I do mind is the inconsistencies of the lengths of suspensions or fines for different events. in all honesty, it seems the NFL have no guidelines to the severity of suspensions or fines.

If the commissioner was actually consistent in the punishments that are dealt out he wouldn't be under this type of scrutiny

Well, Goodell is now considering a 1 year ban for domestic violence. Little late, but they're feeling the backlash.

Which is bull****. Context matters. Even the the law has varying degrees for which people are charged and punished.

The NFL heard, "Josh Gordon and Justin Blackmon are out for the year for smoking weed?!? and "Pyror got 6 games for selling autographs in college?!?" compared to Rice's 2 games (4 before appeal) and interpreted that message as "We need stricter and harsher punishments!" as oppose to the more meaningful and thoughtful interpretation, "Why do we keep giving out (ridiculous) suspensions for victim less crimes, like weed and college autographs? Maybe we should stop being petty..."

The NFL doesn't need to increase suspensions for the off the field problems, whether it be DV or otherwise. The NFL needs to go back to the old system and mind their business. Let the law deal with law breakers. Otherwise, the whole issue of consistency is never going away and players will continue to be punished unfairly. Hell, Goodell has given himself complete authority to punish without evidence, if he deems it appropriate.

And if that's not good enough, then criminal behavior (conduct detrimental) should be treated like the drug program. 4 games for 1st violation, 8 games for 2nd violation, 16 for 3rd violation, etc... Leaving Goodell to serve as judge, jury, and executioner is ridiculous no matter what.

And really, this idea of "protecting the shield" is a bunch of ****. The NFL brand is untouchable. Guys still break laws and rules, same as always. They get punished now and it serves no real purpose. If the NFL insists on punishing players then do it by taking away game checks... What's worse than being suspended 4 games without pay? Playing 4 games for free. All work, no reward.
