You don't draft a complementary player in the first round when you have an opportunity to select a franchise back. Ever. But that's what the Cowboys did Saturday by drafting Felix Jones instead of Rashard Mendenhall. It's a decision Jerry Jones, Wade Phillips and whoever else helped make it will regret. Mendenhall, 18 pounds heavier and a shade faster (4.45-4.46) than Jones, is capable of being a featured back. You can build an offense around him. That's why the Steelers were calling him on his cell phone as Roger Goodell was announcing the Cowboys' pick.

Yeah, I guess they passed on him because he was to similar to Barber, a tough violent runner. Supposedly they just didnt want 2 of those guys on the roster. Jones was a solid pickup though. Not as good as Mendenhall overall, but a good fit for that team.

I cant fault them to much for doing it really.

The big losers imo were the Texans. They had no business passing him, especially seeing as how they ended up panicking and blowing their pick on Brown. Oops.
