New Promo for Dexter, I'm so excited for the season to start.
Oh Dexter. I loved the first season, two and three were slower...Four kicked it up a notch and I just couldn't make it thourgh the fifth. Dont wanna watch this without finish 5th...but I just have no interest in finishing it. Friend of mine tells me it gets alot better at the end, but this is the same guy who insist that 3d is the best season. So I take that with a grain of salt.
outstanding opening episode imo. sometimes premiere episodes feel flat, strange and have something missing. not the case last night. the character evolution of dexter does not seem forced at all. he is still busy trying to fill the blanks of his life and set harrison up for success. the vigilante side plot was good. the opposing serial killers are disturbing and interesting i feel great about this season
I liked it a lot; even with all the "sudden" plot advances, at no time did it seem contrived or rushed. I thought that John Lithgow would be the villain to end all villains on this show, but Edward James Olmos might just surpass him.
its kind of funny. my eyes needed to adjust a bit to the show with the tilted camera and odd angles. love it im liking the whole Harry= God, The Code= 10 Commandments thing
A good start to the season.Dexter doesnt seem to be torn by the dichotomy of his character in this season. He has given in to the serial killer side and goes about his revenge killings with gusto as though he is thoroughly enjoying himself .

The kicker? Colin Hanks as his "student", I'm thoroughly impressed by the pairing despite them only just being introduced.
I'm kinda getting the vibe that Olmos may be Colin Hanks' "Harry" mentor. It would be pretty interesting if Olmos was not a real character, or passed or whatever.
This show always seems to deliver, I thought the opening episode was really good. Dexter's expression when he sees the snakes in the body was classic, this is the kind of thing he lives for. He needs a good opponent. I still miss Doakes sometimes though, he needs another cop after him lol.
Yeah, I miss Doakes too; he was a backbone character without whom the show is just a little weaker. Writers sometimes write themselves into a corner; pregnancy, marriage, death...all are bells that cannot be un-rung. Sometimes it's lazy writing, other times it's just an error in judgment or an inability to see more than two moves out. The writers on Dexter were able to write themselves out of the plot-limiting marriage with Rita and they did it in the most brilliant manner possible, but killing off Doakes is a move I'm sure they wish they could undo. Then again, the way the Doakes character was developed as the show went on was another way they painted themselves into a corner; they thought themselves out of it handily, albeit briefly, with the drug addiction subterfuge, but they were bound and determined to kill him. And it doesn't help that his "replacement" character is unctuous and repulsive, where Doakes' earnestness and ethical behavior were endearing.
I don't really know how much longer they could have kept Doakes around, he was just too smart to let Dexter get away with what he was doing for too long. He was a brilliant character that they have been hard pressed to replace though thats for sure. I do think that within a building of cops you'd think one or two of them would just get a 'vibe' from him and be onto him. The books have a much different take on Doakes and Deborah which are pretty interesting if you haven't read them the books are really good.
Maybe that's why they brought this new black detective onto the show. They're missing that "hardcore" cop presence, but I guess if Dexter is supposed to be the smartest of the bunch, you've gotta dumb everyone else down just a hair.
I'm curious what blondie's angle is. It seems like her being a fanatic is a ruse. Maybe she's Dexter's long lost sister. lol.
solid season so far. What made season one great, and it took a while for the writers to figure out the formula again is: don't make the entire friggin season about Dexter not getting caught, make it about him doing what he does, against a great antagonist.
The blond assistant seems a little kinky . It would be difficult to work around her without getting distracted . Her poking around is a danger to Dexter....the female Doakes if you will .She may find some overlooked clues ....or maybe she is a serial killer in waiting and be a devoted Dexter disciple .
Very plausible .Dexter has his imaginary dad .The Olmos role could mirror that.He is there when the character needs him.
i think that would be awesome. though i think he is actually handling objects in the physical world (the painting) . harry doesnt
Yea my theory kinda went out the window when they showed him burning himself, then painting the heads
Olmos' character still has not interacted directly with anyone except his disciple, so I think he will turn out to be this guy's "Harry." And yeah, Matsuka's assistant really is distracting. They've had some hot women on this show, but she is one rock-solid chunk of sex.
I agree, I think that it is entirely plausible that Olmos' character is just a vision. WHen you're hallucinating why not think its possible that your hallucination can move things and interact in your world. I hope it is the case.
...and in the last episode, a super-fight between the crazy Rev and Harry, complete with lightning-bolt-hands!
The fact that his picture appears at his website is an indication that Olmos is a real character .But it was stated he went underground after he was fired 3 yrs ago .
i noticed that as well. he would also be a pretty perverted ghost, peeking through the door. btw, if he is actually an imagination, we are dealing with someone really sick in the Colin Hanks character. he wakes up and has no idea he tied that girl up in the kitchen?
Hmm with Deborah's and Quinns relationship going sour and the new detective, something tells me one of the two will start to notice Dexter. The new detective seems really perceptive, might become another Doakes. I do like the new villains this year, the religion angle to the show is interesting too.
**** just got real good fast. Spoiler I am convinced that Olmos character is not a real person. I love that Dexter brother is the new Harry. I wish Brother Sam pulled through. Really liked his character a lot. I think the intern is going to start stalking dexter. Can't wait to see what happens with the trinitys son.
I think a cool twist would be Brother sam being alive, and knowing Dexter killed the man who shot him. I re-watched and its just assumed Brother sam is dead.
Great episode, this show has managed to keep quality writing and nice twists going for 6 seasons so far. Hopefully it stays around till it gets old, hasn't happened so far. Dexter's brothers appearance at the end was brilliant. I do agree with some of you, the Olmos character seems like the killer's Harry, might just be his imagination.
After this week I am sold that Olmos is a figment of his imagination. I said after the Trinity season that in the end I see no way they can or should have Dexter being a good guy. Introducing his brother back in I wonder if this is a turn towrards that. I know I got ragged before but I still think Dexter killed his wife.
