Phinator promoted Joe Lombardi his first choice for head coach because of his strong family history. Next he added two young up and coming coaches as his offense and defense coordinator. Freddie Kitchen was hired from Arizona where he learned under Bruce Arians to run the O. Rocky Seto was hired from Seattle to run Detroits defense and help make it one of the top defenses again.
