This guy stood out to me big time on the very first pit drill rep of the very first South practice of the Senior Bowl. Immediately I had to look up just exactly who this guy was. The more I watched him during the practice week, the more I loved him. To me, he was the best performing defensive end outside of Alex Okafor who was a better all-around guy with better technique and versatility, but it was also clear that Cornelius had more explosiveness than Okafor did.

He had himself a heck of a game though once again it goes unnoticed because of the hype around Ezekial Ansah. Washington was held no less than four times during the game, at least two of them actually were called and I can't remember if the third one got called or not. In addition he had a sack and I believe he also stripped the ball on the sack. Several other times he pressured the quarterback, including I believe on an interception. He actually made a bigger impact than Ezekial Ansah did in the game, at the same position.

I've been watching some of his tape at Georgia and he reminds me a lot of Mark Anderson. He seemed to lose focus at Georgia and just not play to the speed you want him to play at. But at the same time, they didn't often ask him to do what he's really good at, because of the scheme.

They had him doing everything. He was lined up with his hand off the ground as an outside linebacker, his hand on the ground as a defensive end. He played Closed End, he lined up inside of the tackle, outside of the tackle, played the B gap as well as the C gap, often stunted to the interior so that their talented defensive tackles could stunt outside.

The thing they didn't have him doing very often was the thing he got to show off at the Senior Bowl: engage an outside pass rush. Seriously it took until halfway through the 4th quarter of the Tennessee game before I saw him allowed by the scheme to do that even one time. But when he did, he did it well. Really well. He shows the speed off the edge, the length, flexibility and the ability to bend, everything you need.

The irony is the Dolphins need him but may not want him. What they're going to want is a guy that does all the things he was asked to do that kept him buried as far as his media recognition is concerned. The Dolphins will want him to do all the things that made him a nobody at Georgia. But IMO they need a guy that can rush the passer in obvious passing situations when Cam Wake can't be your only threat. They could certainly use a Mark Anderson. Unlike the Mark Anderson from this last off season, you won't have to pay $19.5 million over a 4 year deal with $8 million guaranteed in order to get this guy. But, on the other hand, like the Mark Anderson from the 2006 NFL Draft, you can probably get this guy in the middle rounds to come and be your cheap obvious downs pass rusher...the kind of guy the Seahawks paid a #15 overall pick to get last year.

He's the lanky #83, wearing short white sleeves that poke out from his uniform sleeves. Should probably watch the whole video to get a feel for him but here are a few highlights singled out.

Ah, #83, I noticed him. Looked like he had some burst and good length in the game, I thought that it might have been Malliciah Goodman. Good spot, definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Here's a good drill to watch. It probably helps to watch all of the DLs go through it so that you've got a good perspective when #83 Cornelius Washington runs through it. He was definitely the fastest in the drill but it's not as if he blew everyone away. Lavar Edwards of LSU was nearly as good in the drill. But say for instance a Margus Hunt went through this drill, you'd have seen him exposed.

I just went over some tape of Mallicah Goodman, Devin Taylor and then your Washington clips above again. You make a good case for Washington, and his burst, quicks and ability to turn the corner look the best of the three to me. Very good call on this guy, and he's a player who I think might go higher that expected, certainly a guy that I could see playing a valuable role for Miami as a DE and situational pass rusher. Could be a heck of a pick for us, maybe 4th round.

I think NFL evaluators will start looking at Washington in the 3rd round. He's a Mark Anderson clone.

thanks for the cut up..... especially since it contains Ansah too. :p
I wonder how many people would hem & haw about taking Washington in the 3rd round only to watch him earn a 35+ million contract in 5 years.

Off topic, Ansah displaying his power & leverage on the first 2 plays, especially during the 2nd one where he pushes back the double team a yard. He's like a horse or Centaur the way his body powerfully rears upward to generate force. (better illustrated in the play below).

Now Zeke Ansah is a mythical creature? You're like a dog with a bone here. You should impose on yourself a no-Ansah rule for like the next 72 hours. This is a Cornelius Washington thread.

Or, more accurately, with the whole straight-from-Africa thing:

yeah, better chance of Fin-O going three straight days w/o sexing up a 47 year old dive bar bartender wearing her sixteen year old's clothes in a self-deluted attempt to maintain the youth she lost eight thousand Marlboro Reds and six hundred Natty Lights ago. lol

TP..I struggled to put Jordan above Ziggy, I think he's gonna be damn good, and I see why your excited about him, I just see a payer in Jordan who blows me away with his ceiling.

My only hesitation-causing concern is Jordan's ability to put on weight and maintain it. If Jordan were already at 250+ (and played at that weight) I'd have a much tougher time deciding between he and Ziggy, but to each his own my brobeans. :knucks:
I'd like to know if Baldy has any insight on his Oregon boy, if he hasn't already shared.

I will never be able to think of Zeke Ansah without seeing that image in my head.

And that happened because of a total tag team effort. Todd somehow coming up with a comparison of a football player to a goddamn CENTAUR...which is ludicrous...and Barry finding the most obscure centaur picture imaginable to flesh out the image. Bravo gentlemen.
