Dion Jordan reportedly off Miami Dolphins' NFI list http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...jordan-reportedly-off-miami-dolphins-nfi-list
@davidcanter 2m Tannehills sharpest practice. Looks like the field general I saw last year. Defense throwing tons of looks at him
Brother of DeVier Posey. They actually played each other once in college. One went to Ohio State, the other Ohio. I thought Julian more than held his own against his more heralded brother. That's all I got.
I wouldn't call it a "doghouse". We saw last year that this staff likes to try different combinations during camp. You have guys play on the first team one day and third team the next (and vice-a-versa). The fans and media read into that and blow it out of proportion, but particularly early in camp it has nothing to do with the actual depth chart.
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP 53s Carpenter short and left on a 54 yd FG attempt. Not even close. #dolphins
@chrisperk 45s Carpenter getting lotsa kicks. Just missed short & left from 54 yds. Seems to get much more work than Sturgis.
Keller seems to have quickly become a reliable target for Tannehill, keep reading reports of him catching passes down the seam.
Hah, I was at the game. You might recognize this highlight from it when Brutus Buckeye was attacked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JKD65hhsho I do recall Julian Posey returning a kickoff for a TD in that game. Might have been called back. I do think Posey played in Miami's last few games in 2012.
Hate to be redundant but it's way to early to be reading anything into this stuff. At this point they're out there to get into football shape and learn their assignments. Who caught what, who sacked who, who's 2nd team this or 1st team that, hardly relevant during the 1st week of camp.
Barry Jackson @flasportsbuzz 21s Dion jordan has done nothing in 11 on 11 driils today. O line has had issues today. Egnew had fumble after a catch
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP 13s Brandon Gibson drops an easy gift from Tannehill during drills. He was completely wide open on a 10 yarder Enough with the drops guys!
One reason I'm ambivalent toward camp updates is because the hyper-reporting lends itself to pimping whatever happens to a guy you've been championing or a guy you've been dogging. Michael Egnew catches a ball and then has it stripped and Armando (who evidently has been waiting for this) gets to say "He. Ain't. Making. This. Team." Or the flip side, folks that have been defending Egnew see tweets yesterday about him being active and having the play of the day, etc...and they sarcastically quip "But if you don't do much as a rookie I thought you're supposed to be a bust." It's just this constant stream of people tearing their own rotator cuffs attempting to pat themselves on the back and none of it seems to mean much of anything. First none of it means anything until the pads come on. And even then, none of it means anything until preseason. And then preseason is just preseason, all that matters is when the games matter. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be at training camp and see if I could discern meaningful trends for myself. But I'm not very trusting of others to discern them for me, just because there's a ton of stuff lost in the translation.
It's some sort of football after a long absence, it's something to talk about. Yes, it won't mean much in the big scheme of things, but as a fan it's good to hear about players making plays again...even if it's only day 3 of training camp. No doubt a lot of these players will disappear once the real stuff begins, just like happens after every training camp, but in the meantime I'm going to let myself get a bit excited about the football season being close again. I'd love to be at training camp too, but as that's not possible, hearing about it second or third hand from any source I can is going to have to be enough for now.
I mentioned this in another thread but it also applies here. I tend to rely on my own eyes in setting my expectations, but when it comes to the camp reports and stuff I don't see, I trust our guys here more than the beat reporters. They just seem to try hard to provide full info rather than trying to prove an agenda or generate controversy.
For me, it's a reactionary thing. I don't typically jump the gun with players and their performances during training camp, I treat them all with a grain of salt, but when there are people overreacting negatively after DAY ONE (Armando, certain people on this board with Egnew) than I feel compelled to overreact positively after DAY TWO as a display of ridiculousness. It's not so much that I actually feel that way most of the time, but more or less a display that the pendulum can swing both ways and still mean ****-all in the end, especially in the infant days of training camp.
You're probably right but when you have been jonesing for football for so long you will take what you can get like a football groupie.
But I do think you can spot some trends. My impression is that the TEs are being targeted a ton. Based on my memory of TAMU's offense, what I saw last year, etc., I imagine that we'll see a ton of middle runs as the bread and butter that sets up our read option, end arounds and play action. In the passing game I expect we'll see a ton of short passes to the TE in the middle of the field as the counter to Wallace running deep. I also think Keller is likely to develop into that security blanket when the planned targets don't get open or the play breaks down in some way. Hartline, Gibson and Matthews will also be factors, but I could easily envision a season where Keller ends up with the most receiving targets. (That's not a prediction. I'm just saying I could see it happen).
I wish I could go back there during camp time. I used to live in Plantation about 10 minutes from Nova University and would watch a few practices a week.
Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley 2m Philbin up: "For the first day in pads, it was a good practice for us." Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley 2m Philbon: "We're teaching him the system. Getting him situated in the concepts, and then fundamentals." Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley 1m That was Philbin on Sims.
Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley 1m Philbin on Wheeler & Ellerbe: "They're slippery guys. It's good for us to have it there. ..." Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley 1m More Philbin on Ellerbe and Wheeler: "Conversely, you don't like seeing two guys running free in the A gap." Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley 1m Philbin said he'll see about Jordan taking contact as it goes. "We don't want to rush a guy."
it actually looks like the Dolphins O won the first 11 v 11 and the D came back and blitzed the hell out of them in the second 11 v 11. From just the tweets I've read so far this year. Richard Marshall appears to be struggling. With Jamar Taylor out indefinitely, the corner position opposite Grimes could be filled by a number of guys come opening day.
Disappointed to hear that about Taylor. I really like him. That said, I'm not sure I'd discount Nolan Carroll starting opposite Brent Grimes if Marshall continues to struggle and Taylor continues to be injured.
Probably the one unanimous constant that I've been seeing for months now is that Brent Grimes looks awesome.
I'm supposed to be headed to Oxnard today to scout the Cowboys for the HOF game ... their training camp is pretty close to where we live here. What a disaster they are already with numerous injuries abound. And then there's Tony Romo... don't adjust your screen.. he's gained weight, not just in his wallet from signing that new fat deal.
Oh, c'mon Deej...those of us who heard that chant would naturally be thinking about you ??!!?? Seriously, I could go for it, especially if he turns out to be our next Cam Wake...
Hard to tell them that their reporting sucks so bad they must be high...........if they really are high.
